So did anyone or is anyone currently in the FNP or Adult NP online program at this time? I spoke to an admissions rep and was really impressed. The set up is nice with one course at a time, although was told you can talk to your advisor and sometimes layer your courses here and there as well (like an 11wk course with one 5.5 wk course) which I'd prefer to do to get done faster...since I did my ASN at Excelsior and am finishing my BSN I'm well used to online format courses and have my time down to a science. I was planning on beginning my application process now, so that in December we submit everything with the potential to start the first week of Feb 2014...anyone else??? Any thoughts???

Hi. I got my BSN at South online. I loved it. I was all about to complete my admission process for the FNP but changed my mind. My heart really isn't in becoming a FNP or an ANP. I work in psych and want to be a psych NP. Currently South isn't offering this and all the schools that do are either more expensive and require travel. So I am starting the MSN with a specialization in Nurse Education at South online on 8/29. I had even lined up my future practicum site preceptors for the FNP! This is something you must do, but I did not find this difficult. Yes, the classes are 5 1/2 weeks for the core courses. The practicums are 11 wks with 180 hours required. That means 16-20 hrs/wk. That would be comparable to a parttime job. I must work fulltime, how about you? I still was going for it, but you must realize this is intense. If you really want this then go for it! Good luck to you!
I figured it would be intense =) I've been at Excelsior for my ADN and BSN...all online, i'm used to the volumes of paper writing, and typically I took two 16wk course with an 8 wk layered course each term...now THAT is some work! After the first of the year I plan on going part time at work, so I'm not concerned about the amount of time, and I already have a family practice, and adult/gero practice lined up...will have to look into womens health though...one thing that worries me is all the bad reviews i read online about the financial aide department and how they ask you to pay a lot out of pocket...if i got to part time i won't have any out of pocket money to give them!

Following this post....I too have talked to an advisor in admissions about the FNP Program at South University. I too hope to start in Feb 2014. I was impressed with the class set up as well. I am in the process of finding clinical sites. Where are you located? I am in Florida...tampa area....
I'm in Jacksonville, FL. South is still on my list to apply to,but have decided to first apply to Georgetown University instead, then University of Cincinnati, then South =)

Does anyone know how long their program in FNP is? I can not find it out on the web anywhere.
Thanks
It takes about 2 yrs. Each class is 5.5 weeks or 11 weeks in length. The practicums are 11 weeks long. You have to find your own practicum sites. Good luck.
Sounds good. Last question: do they bury you with papers?
Haha...depending on the class, I do between 1 to 3 papers a week. From what I have heard from people doing physical and online masters programs it's about the same.
Thanks so much for your input. I was wondering if you could expand a little on the writing and testing aspect of your program. Are you inundated with papers? Are your exams proctored, timed, open book? Do you feel you are getting a good online education with respect from the instructors? Anything you share would be super as I'm looking into this program as well as UM and NSU. Your thoughts and...congrats!
Yes, I'm hearing that too. lol
