So did anyone or is anyone currently in the FNP or Adult NP online program at this time? I spoke to an admissions rep and was really impressed. The set up is nice with one course at a time, although was told you can talk to your advisor and sometimes layer your courses here and there as well (like an 11wk course with one 5.5 wk course) which I'd prefer to do to get done faster...since I did my ASN at Excelsior and am finishing my BSN I'm well used to online format courses and have my time down to a science. I was planning on beginning my application process now, so that in December we submit everything with the potential to start the first week of Feb 2014...anyone else??? Any thoughts???
Hi everyone, I'm new to allnurses. I am considering applying at South University and am really hoping to talk to a current FNP student about the program ... have had a really hard time finding any info from students and want to be sure I'm making the right decision with this school ... thanks for any info!!
How do you consider the online program in terms of load of work, and of course, how manageable is the online classes while you work. Also I was told that there are no breaks in between, in Christmas in only one week, before continuing the class. I have taken one so far, and it was good, I'm in my second, and so far, is ok. Also what are your thoughts of the program itself.
Some of the classes are filled with "busy" work while others are more fulfilling. You may get 1 day in between classes, but other than the week at Christmas, from what I have been told, the classes pretty much run together. You can currently stagger classes (start one then in about 3 weeks start another) or you can take more classes at once.
Hey everyone. I, too, am considering applying to this program for February 2014. Do you lose a lot of students in your program? I'm just wondering what the retention rate is. Do you like your classes? Do you recommend the program? I really like what I've heard from the admissions staff at South University, but it is a for-profit program, which makes me a little nervous. I would like to hear how it is from a student who is currently in the program.

No tests. You have weekly assignments that require you to interact via forum discussions. Some classes have one major paper that covers everything you have learned, and some have papers scattered throughout. It depends on the amount of information you are learning. The first two classes were mostly about what makes an Advanced Practice Nurse (remember you are in a MSN program with nurse educators, nurse administrators/managers, nurse researchers, and nurse practitioners, and advanced theory application. After that, the classes have been on pathology and how to look at patients holistically to derive appropriate advanced practice plans to include diagnosis, interventions, education, etc. If anyone wants to know more, please PM me and I will get back with you.
