South University FNP MSN program???

Nursing Students NP Students

So did anyone or is anyone currently in the FNP or Adult NP online program at this time? I spoke to an admissions rep and was really impressed. The set up is nice with one course at a time, although was told you can talk to your advisor and sometimes layer your courses here and there as well (like an 11wk course with one 5.5 wk course) which I'd prefer to do to get done faster...since I did my ASN at Excelsior and am finishing my BSN I'm well used to online format courses and have my time down to a science. I was planning on beginning my application process now, so that in December we submit everything with the potential to start the first week of Feb 2014...anyone else??? Any thoughts???

For everyone on here. I just successfully completed and graduated from South University's ANP program on Nov 1, 2014. Passed my AANP Boards the first time around on Dec 10, 2014 and am now working as a Nurse Practitioner. I was able to juggle working 1 full-time and 1 part-time job, along with being a mother and other family obligations. It is very do-able with determination and much prayer (in my case).

FYI- Preceptors are difficult to locate, but I did it, utilize your area AHEC, they usually have a list of available preceptors in the area. Do not wait til the last minute. Have an open mind to travel

Good luck.

Hello Nhayden24, classes are structured one class at a time, however if you are crazy like me, I have doubled up and took 2 at the time, until now which they will not allow practicum to be stacked. Each class is the same pretty much as far as assignments and what is expected. You have a weekly discussion due early on in the week, and depending on instructor you will either have one or two papers due through out the week with a response required to the discussion posting due by day 7. Each instructor is different in how many pages they require per paper, you must be sure to check that when reading the assignment. Some classes require one paper per week, but then a LARGE (12-15 page paper as the end of course assignment). Discussions are typically 3-4 paragraphs long, APA is required for ALL assignments and you must site correctly and use references in your discussion postings. My instructors have been pretty great through out the program thus far, however some will argue that and say their's have been terrible. EACH instructor grades differently, all I can tell you about that is just do your best and be sure to follow APA guidelines. I begin practicum in little over a month and I currently have a 4.0 GPA, and honestly I do school work approximately 10-15 hours a week. This program is not "HARD" per-say, it requires dedication, sometimes long hours, and the will to complete the work. You are not driven by your instructor, they do not hold your hand, you basically are required to full fill you daily activities and assignments by your on motivation. They are not going to remind you that an assignment is due, YOU must keep up with it and do them EARLY!!!! I can not stress enough how often I procrastinated and there would be times I needed to ask my instructor something but it would be 2 hours before the assignment was due. Don't be scared, it is very DOABLE by all aspects, again it is not hard work, just busy. GOOD LUCK in the program and reach out anytime you feel stressed!! IT WILL BE WORTH IT IN THE END!!!!!!!

[h=1]Blonde~tini,[/h]Thank you so much for the information. Good luck in Clinicals. It will all be worth it in the end!! í ½í¸ƒ

I am also a South student, but I am an on-campus student. Wow tons of work to do and study....I am taking Three classes at a time, yes you heard me correctly, three! Blonde~tini said she was carzy to sign up for two..I guess that makes me super nuts! LOL

I was wondering which classes can you double? What is your expected completion time?

lhflanurseNP, MSN, NP, I wanted to thank you for all the incredibly straight-forward information you've provided. You've had an amazing journey and I personally have benefited from reading your posts and feel you have provided valuable advice for those of us aiming to APRNs degrees.

Congratulations on graduating from SU! I've been looking into online FNP programs and I'm seriously considering applying to SU due in no small part to your honest narratives and optimism. I live in FL as well (Miami) and would very much like to thank you for the selfless in your posts. Please let me know if it would be OK to possibly continue to pick your brain as I make a decision to apply to SU.

Sincerely,

Ted, RN, BSN

Blond~Tini,

I have a couple of questions:

What are the length of the classes?

Are you required to log in a certain number of times? Which classes can you double up?

What is provided by the instructors: video, syllabus, lecture notes, and rubric?

Specializes in Adult Nurse Practitioner.

Ted, I have shared my email with others to help keep the thread here more general. You can contact me at [email protected] with any questions or concerns.

Hi Jenny!! I'm new to AN but did notice that you mentioned a link to a Facebook page for SU FNP students. I'm currently a student and will start my assessment class on 03/05. It sounds like we are on the same track. I would love the link to the Facebook page to network with other students. Thanks!
