South University FNP MSN program???

Nursing Students NP Students

So did anyone or is anyone currently in the FNP or Adult NP online program at this time? I spoke to an admissions rep and was really impressed. The set up is nice with one course at a time, although was told you can talk to your advisor and sometimes layer your courses here and there as well (like an 11wk course with one 5.5 wk course) which I'd prefer to do to get done faster...since I did my ASN at Excelsior and am finishing my BSN I'm well used to online format courses and have my time down to a science. I was planning on beginning my application process now, so that in December we submit everything with the potential to start the first week of Feb 2014...anyone else??? Any thoughts???

Queenbeenurse, I will be done this December. This program relies heavily on discussion forum postings and interactions and weekly papers. There have been a few tests but nothing one can't handle (I'm not a great test taker either..."high anxiety").

Which courses did you have tests?

I am in this program with 2 more classes to go. The school is expensive, but I'm satisfied. The only thing is finding your own preceptor. I think the school should at least list practice sites that were utilized by former students by their state. That would at least provide some steps at locating a preceptor.

Well I will be starting the FNP program at South University Monday June 2, 2014! Wish Me LUCK!! I will keep others posted as much as I can. Any advice from current and or previous students would be greatly appreciated. I am very apprehensive about the school and the program based on some things I wrote but I am taking my chances because becoming an NP was my life-long passion. I'm finally here and I'm ready to take it on. I just pray and hope South University is the right place to get it done. They transferred in 4 of my classes from my MSN and I am waiting on the approval of one more so my time shouldn't be as long. I will be starting with Nursg6001 S07 Advanced Nursing Practice 1. Any tips or references anyone can offer would be nice as well. I have a feeling finding a preceptor may be difficult but I am going to be hopeful.

Well after further research and consideration I have decided to postpone South University and continue my education at my Graduate school for FNP. South is CCNE accredited which means they abide by the standards to alow programs bsn and above which is good but my previous school is both approved by CCNE and NLNAC which means they are evaluated every so years to be sure they abide by the strict standards of the department of education for the scope of practice they educate as well as evaluate the students perception on the program itself and its curriculum structuring. Neither school is BRN approved but my previous school uses the curriculum of APU which is BRN approved. My concern is I want to get out of school competent and with no issue in receiving my certificate. I'm not saying South will not prepare me because as it has been stated you get out of it what you put in just with any Graduate education there is no babysitting, but I just feel more comfortable with my previous school and I already know how they operate. Not to mention I will just be picking up where I left off. Thanks for all the advice and The Best of Luck to you all!!

you go back to school the student loans go back into deferment

can you work full time and go the online courses of South U?

I've read lots of negative comments about the school. I am wanting comments on the online FNP program. I am also on the fence about applying.

I too was on the fence for applying initially, however, when I found out that they were accredited, I didn't hesitate. I have kept a full time job and am easilly getting everything done for the classes and am going to take two classes in the next session. Personally, I'm finding the classes pretty easy and have liked all my professors...but then I am a big Nerd and didn't take a break from school, so I didn't really have to "get back in the swing of things". As long as you read all the announcments and follow instructions classes are fine. As to whether or nort it prepares you for certification...I don't know...but then I have always been one to use those study books that prepare you for certification tests. Standardized tests are always way more difficult than school tests, so far I have had no tests, just a lot of papers, but those are doable.

Any feedback on the exam because i am starting this class and i am very nervous about the exams . Since we have to cover a lot of materials and the instructor is not that helpful
