Sorry I got the RN

Published

I was an LPN who wanted more, so I went back to school for the RN. Now I can't find an RN position and I have slammed the door

on being an LPN. I should have waited to take the boards and continued on as an LPN for as long as I could.

I have LTC experience as an LPN, but now that I hold the RN license, I cannot find a job, not even in LTC.

I have wanted to be a nurse for so long, and now I feel like I have screwed myself.

Sorry, just venting.

stay motivated, something will come up! i dont want to get discouraged as well- i too live in jersey. looks like you and i are in the same boat. i thought for certain i would get even a flu shot gig but same as u- nothing. =P ugh!

its pretty funny... well not really..

but as an associates RN (former LPN), im overqualified to push a med cart, but underqualified to be a supervisor. I've been to a handful of these interviews.. pretty strange..

i didn't wait too long after i got my RN to want to switch careers..maybe it was the 130+ applications and resumes i sent out, all the doors closed in my face, all the rejections, wasted tears...

i actually just got my teaching certification to teach english overseas and plan to teach english in china after the holidays. spent three weeks there last month and teaching is a million times less stressful than being a nurse.. just saying..

screw nursing

.:lol2:

as for practical advice.. if you want a job, youll have to move to a more remote area that has a much less competitive job market.

america is toilet bowl status. stinky toilet bowl.

I'm graduating in May with my ADN and this is what scares me the most. Were you ever able to find a job?

Yes, I started my first RN job right after the new year in a LTC/Rehab facility. It is definitely not my first choice, but

it is a chance to get some experience and then hopefully find my niche. I had 2 weeks orientation and am going out on

my own this week. It is scary. I am OK with taking over the med cart, since that is mostly what I did as an LPN, but

am still full of questions about the paperwork. I know that I have put things in the wrong place a couple of times during my orientation, but I guess that is how you learn, from your mistakes. I watch the experienced nurses fly through the paperwork and wonder how long it will be before I can do that. Right now, I would rather go slow and make sure that it is right, even if it means staying a little later, after my shift.

I'm so glad you landed a job in nursing. Even though it's not your first choice job it will be easier for you tO land a diff job when you already workingGood luck to you

Hmmm,I had thought Ltc facilities were doing the opposite. The one I used to work at fired the lpns and replaced them with Rn's.

If you lpn license hasn't expired, can't you technically still work as an lpn even though you have the Rn license?
