Someone saying that they are a LVN when they are not!

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

There is a patient's family member that is telling people that she is a LVN but I find out that she is nothing more than a sitter. This is against the law, right?

i don't know why she feels she has to lie about things like this.

I know of two times when people said they were nurses. Both of these girls worked as MA's in doctors offices. One just simply called herself a nurse, the other one had the nerve to write RN after her name. Not only did she write RN after her name, her doctor did research for new drugs and she signed "RN" to all those research papers...

Yes, it is unfortunate she feels she needs to call herself a nurse. The only time it would be illegal is if she tried to present herself as a nurse for employment. I've heard that there are Medical Assistants that call themselves Physicans Assitants....Oh Please!!!! :-)

Technically Medical Assistants can call themselves Physicians Assistants; thats what they do, they assist the physician....I can see the confusion however...a PA is not a Physicians Assistant....a PA is Physician Assistant (my friends is in the PA program at UCDavis....she made the mistake of saying "I want to be a Physicians Assistant because..." at her interview, they correctly corrected her and said its "Physician Assistant")

Just to make an ornery point

I really wonder what board to report them to. I can support that idea, but if she is already not an RN, and the medical assistants don't seem to have a standardized board of their own, I really wonder what good that can do.

There is a CNA at my job that is taking a medical assisting course. Recently, they started upgrading the CNAs to work as Patient Care Associates, a position that adds additional responsibilities of phlebotomy and EKG to their job description. This woman says that she is currently 'going to school for nursing'. It makes me laugh, really.

I HATE THIS. A girl I know used to tell people she was a nurse and she was a home health aide. I swear this ****** me off. I am still a student and wouldn't even think to do something so immoral.

My MIL does this. She was a home health aid about 15 yrs ago but she tells people she is a NURSE! It makes my blood boil.

I'm sure the Board of Nursing in your state knows how to deal with this.

It is a crime to represent yourself as a nurse without a valid license.

Most Nursing Pracice Acts have language that states:

"No person shall: Use any words, abbreviations, figures, letters, title, sign, card or device tending to imply that he or she is a registered nurse, licensed practical nurse or advanced practice registered nurse unless such person is duly licensed to practice under the provisions of this Act."

so, she's just running her mouth? lol oh, who cares, she just wants you to think she's the poo!! is she giving advice or attempting procedures? if not, leave it alone, chalk it up to another liar... i agree herring_rn, however, the story isn't that this mother is trying to work as an lvn, or is she? i can say i'm an rn all day long to whoever will listen, does it mean i'm going to represent myself to a place of employment for an rn job and try to scam the system... no. there is a difference.

I am a CNA, and I know when someone mistakes me for a nurse, I quickly correct them. I know I do not have anywhere near the knowledge a nurse has, and I do not want to be consulted on anything that I don't know about. I remember when I first got hired as a home-health aide, one of the girls I was partnered with kept telling me she was a nurse. So, I believed her, and whenever I didn't understand something in the home, I would call her. Turns out she WAS only a HHA like me, and I got into trouble for not calling the real nurse. I hated her for that, but am over it now. People should not lie! The end. Sorry about the rant.
