Somebody stop me!!

I'm so excited about nursing school, that I'm buying all these "review" books on eBay that I won't need for a year or more. I just got a great deal, though, on Nclex Review - RN - Made Incredibly Easy. So it's a year old? How outdated can the info be? Plus the CD is unopened? Does anyone else detect a pattern here of me trying to justify these purchases? :chuckle

Maybe I just needed a "buddy" book for the Kaplan review I bought but can't put down. :)

The good thing of all of this though is.......I've made my decision about which nursing school I'm going to go to. I've decided on the Catholic one, where I got the big scholarship. It's day like I wanted - clinicals are on Tuesday from 7-3, lecture is Mon and Wed from 7-10:45. That will leave me two additional days to take a course to maintain full-time status so I can have the scholarship. It's a lot more money, even with the scholarship, but really what I think will suit me best. Plus I think this may be the push I need to find my spiritual side again. :)

Do you all know how relieved I am that there are others secretly collecting and reading books which they don't understand yet, but trying to absorb every little bit of information??? I was afraid I was the only one trying to build my own personal medical library. If I buy any more, I'm going to need a minor in Library Sciences to start cataloging them. :chuckle

We should all post our eBay ID's, so we aren't trying to outbid each other!! :roll

Im so sick of the books I practically gave them away at the book store. Although I do recommend the NCLEX review books they are a lifesaver. Some of the other books, oh about 20 I have had through all 4 semesters have made great paper weights.

But I think I will give away some of the others and my ugly clinical scrubs to a first semester student. Just to be able to get into my closet again will be heaven.

I'm a certified ebay book addict as well, I have probably more than 120 I've bought in the last 6 months, maybe more, and I'm already a nurse! But I'm finishing my education through to an MSN and feel books are a great way to have instant research info at your fingertips. I recently bid on, and accidently won, 36 nursing books for 9 bucks plus shipping of about 18.00. When I got them I found I'd hit the motherload, all the books were new or only a year old and I started looking them up, many go for as much as 96.00 new. They cover every aspect of nursing you can think of through the graduate level.

My suggestion to you new nurses is DON'T THROW AWAY YOUR BOOKS. I never thought I would go back to school once I graduated and 6 years later I'm finishing a bachelor's in Psychology and going into an MSN program. I have lamented throwing away my pathophysiology books more than a few times, as well as all my psych books.

As I've gone on with my education I've found that having various sources for topics have been so beneficial. When I don't get something from one book, I go to another and Bingo! I can see what the answer is and fully understand it.

At least you aren't buying shoes. :)

I have saves some books for reference too. But I had so many books I was afraid I would have to get a bigger place just to store them all. hehe

It's great to know that I'm not the only one doing this. :chuckle Someone stop me from getting on Amazon. However, they've been recommending a book to me (mnemonics for Nursing) that's out of print and won't ship for 2 months!

And I won't find out if I'm accepted at my program until May/June! Keep your fingers crossed for me. I'm gonna feel kind of bad if I'm not accepted at this BSN program. :o

You are not alone! I belong to a Nursing Book Club and have already spent about $400 on books that I dont understand yet! lol

I figure most of it cant get outdated that quickly!

Enjoy them! I do!

What about setting up a book swap? Could you do that with your friends/fellow students?

Nursing book club? Can anyone join????

When I first went back to school in the pre-nursing program, I went and spent $200 on old manuals on ebay. Since I didn't end up going into the actual program, I wasted that money and sold the books in a yard sale. Though, my husband did say something about some still being there, they won't be any good to me now.

Hmmmm......the link won't open for me. Any other suggestions?

I have a degree in Library Science, so I will volunteer to catalog everyone's books! I have purchased so many nursing books in addition to the required texts. Some of my purchases are much better than the required books.

One book I have found to be invaluable is the Lippincott Manual of Nursing Practice. It is sort of a Med/Surg and Care Plan book combined. I hate our Med/Surg book, so I use the Lippincott all the time.

Anybody else have a book that is exceptionally good?
