Some people have no common sense!

Published

So I went to a interview for a RN position at a doctors office. I was the only one in the waiting room when a woman walked in wearing a tshirt and leggings, and had her screaming infant and husband with her. I assumed she was a patient but she walked up and said she was there for her RN interview too!

I was shocked! Who brings their baby and husband with them for a interview? They should have waited outside or in the car. It gets better, the baby finally stops crying after 10 minutes or so, so the husband pulls out his phone and starts playing video games with the volume turned all the way up... Everyone that worked there took turns to walk by the reception desk and glare at them, lol.

But it gave me a confidence boost right off the bat. I was dressed appropriately and came by myself! Just wanted to share. Does anyone else have any inappropriate interview stories to share?

Wow. That's almost as bad as some stories of young graduates bringing their parents with them to interviews! I really think some people are just missing certain genes, if you know what I mean...

Hey, think of it this way, the less common sense and class that she had, the better for you! :)

I wish every other candidate for a position I'm interviewing from would come like the one you described. hahaha

Haha, you guys are giving me an idea... call up some old actor friends to dress up like the most undesireable applicants ever, to show up on my interview day...:cautious:

I went to some info meetings for nursing programs and people in their mid to upper twenties were bringing their parents with them. I was quite surprised, but then realized their parents are probably footing all the bills for the program. As far as bringing your husband and kid to an interview, that's a new one.

"Common Sense" isn't all that common, is it?

Let me guess, ............ she got the job?! I hope you did and best wishes.

That's funny and I hope you got the job! Common sense isn't so common anymore! My office manager's window is in the front of the building. She was in awe watching someone getting frisky in the car with her boyfriend parked in front of her window. Guess who walked in for her 1 pm interview? The interviewee was shocked to she her boyfriend in his car through the window and made for an awkward interview. Guess who didn't get the job!

Neither is being 'sensible', or so it seems.

Just a thought - do those HR staff/recruiters actually, really conduct the interview with the parents present??? I would think it would be within their rights to exclude Mommy & Daddy from the interview.

How about it? Any managers, recruiters, dept heads out there who allowed Mom & Dad in for offspring's interview?

There was an article on Forbes, ('Helicopter Parents' Crash Kids' Job Interviews: What's An Employer To Do? - Forbes) detailing the issue and discussing the implications.

If my head wasn't attached to my shoulders, it probably would have fallen off from me shaking it so much while reading the article. Helicopter parenting at its best..

Just a foot note.....while I think it is ridiculous for parents to go on a job interview....you bet you sweet behind I am going with my 17 year old daughter when she visits colleges and nursing programs......she is a senior in high school.....my job is to be sure she gets the best foot forward in this new world. I don't have to be in the room with the interview but I will be in the waiting area to help her navigate this new responsibility and phase of her life.

That's a different beast altogether -- you are helping your kiddo make the best possible choice when it comes to schools and her education. I consider that being a good parent who loves their child and wants the best for them!

Now, if your going with her to a salary negotiation talk... ;)
