Question for people who made career change into nursing?
For those who have changed careers and became a nurse: What was your previous career? What is your current position? How has your overall experience been as a nurse? Do you have any regrets?

UNE
Because I'm thinking about taking Chemistry online, I've read about UNE online classes on several forums, and supposedly overall it is fairly difficult, but most people I've read about are getting A or B grades in the class. The difficulty is most likely in having to be disciplined enough to really dig in and spend quality time studying without the structure of an in person class which is hard for me and most other people.

Do you actually study A&P book for exam? or you just refer to it?
I skim read the chapters, preferably before lecture. About a week out from our tests our teacher gives us a vague idea of what's going to be on the test, and I carefully read and take notes on the sections I'm pretty sure will be on the test. It is time consuming, but hitting the material from different angles helps give me a deeper understanding of the material, and I remember it much longer. I got a 4.0 in the first section, and am doing well so far in the second session. Also, if the teacher is lecturing on a slide that is taken from a diagram in our book, I try to find the diagram in the book and follow a long in there as well, helps to keep me focused instead of letting my mind wander.

Testing anxiety
Here's a great article about students who wrote about their anxious feelings before a test (for ten minutes) and did, as a whole, remarkably better.

Affordable ABSN Program?
I have a BA degree and am looking for a decent accelerated BSN program that isn't astronomical in price (I'd be open to MSN programs as well). I'm willing to go to any location. The prerequisites I will have completed by this December are A&P I and II, General Biology, General Chemistry, Microbiology, Precalculus, and Lifespan Psychology. My prerequisite GPA is 3.9. The problems I've run into are that a lot of programs outside of Washington state have some prerequisites that aren't offered at the schools around here, and also I'm not sure which programs are decent. I'm not looking to go to Yale, I just want to find a decent program that won't put me into astronomical debt. I know I've made a post very similar to this in the past, but I didn't get many responses, so I'm trying again. Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Micro Help! What can I do to help myself?
Make an appointment with the dean and tell him exactly what is going on. I was in a Precalc class that was just like this as far as evey one failing, and enough people complained to the dean. At the end of the course I ended up with a 3.8 in the class, and I wasn't even sure I would get a 2.0 in class. I believe our teacher just ended up curving the grades substantially.

Web help for Biology and Chemistry
I'm taking some prerequisites and often go to my community college's tutoring lab for assistance with questions that come up when I'm working on chemistry and biology homework. Some days the hours of these resources don't work for my schedule and I could use some help. Does anyone know any good web forums or tutoring websites to get help with Chemistry, Microbiology, and Anatomy and Physiology questions? Education and grades are important to me, so I don't mind spending a little money on this.

Some people have no common sense!
I went to some info meetings for nursing programs and people in their mid to upper twenties were bringing their parents with them. I was quite surprised, but then realized their parents are probably footing all the bills for the program. As far as bringing your husband and kid to an interview, that's a new one.

Accelerated BSN programs?
Mchel210. Thank you for the info! Both of those programs interest me. Is one program considered better than the other? 15 months does appeal to me a bit more than 12 months (more time to learn stuff).

Accelerated BSN programs?
The University of Washington ABSN program is fairly expensive, and as far as I can tell being a Washington resident doesn't give me any tuition reduction. Also, I went to their program information meeting, and one needs at least 100 hours of volunteer or work hours in the profession and in my current volunteer position at a hospital I only have about 60 hours.

Tips from an A&P Tutor
Teaching the subject is pure gold. I put a dry erase board on my refrigerator and give fake classes. Something about writing it on the dry erase board really makes evident what areas I still don't quite grasp. After teaching a topic a few times on the dry erase board, I easily remember it on the test. It does end up saving me a LOT of study time, and I got a 4.0 in my A&P I class.
