Socks & clogs??? - Help!!

Published

Hello everyone,

I am a sophomore in college and I am about to start my first clinical rotation. Just recently I purchased a pair of clogs and I need some help with what type of socks nurses typically wear with their clogs. Do nurses wear just regular ankle socks or mid calf type socks to prevent your socks sliding down your feet during your day. My clinical is 7-3 and I want to make sure that i don't go into my clinical and be uncomfortable during my whole day.

Also has anyone purchased the unisex clogs from allheart? Are they comfortable? I did read the reviews before purchasing and people do seem to love them but I do want some more opinions. With my boyfriend leaving for the marines in 2 weeks and the amount of work I had during the semester I did not work. Nor, did I work this winter break because I wanted to spend time with my boyfriend before he does ship to basic training. Because of my lack of money at the moment, I went with my cheaper option (instead of danskos). I do plan on purchasing danskos at some point, but right now as a 19 year old college student who is out of work it was not the best option for me right now.

I am open to any help, I am so desperate!!! Also, any help/information is greatly appreicated :)

Thank you in advance, happy new year!!!!

I wear compression socks, whether I'm wearing my clogs or sneakers. That many hours on your feet for a long time really get to you after a while.

ETA: good luck to you! Also, I prefer sneakers to clogs but that is my pref for a 13 hour shift in the ER.

Thank you!!! :) I think I would also prefer sneakers as well but my school does not allow it sadly.

In the summer I wear athletic socks with my clogs. They stay in place, have a little cushioning, wick moisture and are reasonably priced.

In winter, I like Smartwool socks. Some people feel cold easily, and I put myself at the top of the list. Wool socks and long underwear in the winter gets me through the day.

Thank you - so helpful! I also get so cold so easily..especially my feet.

Clogs ...people either hate them or they love them. I love my Danskos, but I have no experience with any other brand. I've never heard of any kind of socks being an issue??? Just wear what you're used to and comfortable in.

Good luck with your clogs... I've never been able to tolerate them for any length of time. I swear by my Alegrias, but they're a bit pricey so I try to catch them when they go on sale. Compression socks are great. When you're choosing socks - just use the same criteria you'd choose for other athletic activities. Bedside nursing is a marathon for sure.

I think it's odd that you have to wear clogs. They can be dangerous, not very safe. I also recommend support stockings of some kind. I have gotten bad varicose veins over my 27 years of nursing.

All I wear are various styles of Birkenstocks, and with any socks that are comfortable. My husband's Danskos came apart within a month. He was not impressed!

Good luck!

I would not wear clogs, they seem insufficient to me to wear on a busy floor. For socks either compression socks or 100% wool socks.

I wear athletic socks with the clogs as well. The ones with the rubber grips on the bottom. They stay in place quite nicely and are very comfortable! It is interesting that you are not allowed to wear sneakers. They are much more sturdy and safe in my opinion.
