I have a family that seems unsuccessful in getting rid of lice in two kids with the longest thickest hair ever. The parent tells me she has treated. The first time there were definitely fewer bugs so I feel confident they were treated. What I don't know is if follow up was done. I did lots of education. So they still have them, and everybody is looking at me like, "Well? What are you going to do?" WHAT CAN I DO? HELP ME!

Keep educating, remind the parent to do the follow up treatment, suggest a call to the doctor for prescription grade treatment, and make sure the students don't feel singled out

the biggest mistake is no second treatment or treating too soon, sooner than a week. I tell parents to wait 10 days before the 2nd treatment just to make sure all the buggers have hatched.

Did you educate them on just lice combing? Some parents are afraid of the shampoos because of possible links to leukemia.
Lice Treatment Linked to Leukemia
Yep, that's what I tell all of the parents now; it makes so much sense and I appreciate that tip.
I go over all of the different methods for removal, send written info on each, and sometimes will send combs/conditioner and Rid if I think obtaining it will be an issue. I did recommend to this mom that she call her health care provider for advice since the first go-round didn't work. I know the teacher of one is very frustrated with me and it's really starting to "bug" me.

Since i've started telling parents to wait more like 10 days (i call it the Old dude method) it really seems like my lice recidivism rate has dropped.
Another thought; has mom been checked? maybe they can't get rid of them because they're still passing them around
