Well, tomorrow I hit the 7 month mark since graduation and 5 1/2 months since I got my license and still no real job. Still sending out resumes and making calls daily. I'm working two very per diem RN positions averaging 3-5 shifts/month...probably going to have to look into getting a job in some other field for right now. I'm supposed to have a position at the end of January but I'm truly doubting with the state of the economy and budget cuts that therhe will be any money to create the position for me. All my student loans have gone into repayment for a total of $506/month, not to mention my $9,000 in credit card debt from school, rent, car payment/insurance, phone bill, and living expenses. I'm feeling so depressed and really, really scared.

sorry to hear about all this. it has been a rough year for many people and i don't think that we as health care providers are excluded. i wish you all the best in your job search.
have you tried a physician's office, an urgent care center, planned parenthood, etc?? i had a hard time finding a job when i first moved and i just drove around and stopped in at health care facilities and asked to speak with the hiring manager. eventually after 2 months someone hired me on spot!
there is a position for you out there, i promise! keep your head up!!!
as far as the money situation, i've been there too hun and i would recommend calling a debt mgmt company that can help you put all your payments in one sum. also, what i did to help is get rid of the plastic. use cash and put it all in envelopes for what it's for. that way you have it right there in your hand. it's harder to spend the money when you have cash for some reason.
good luck and god bless.

Sorry to hear that you are still without a job.
Do you have any flexibility to relocate? What about trying an area of the country (or MA) where there is more of a demand?
Hang in there and best of luck in your search!
I've applied everywhere but the Springfield area because it's just too far of a drive, I can't swing it no matter how many different ways I break it down. Relocation is not an option because my fiance's job is nontransferrable and he makes very good money...not to mention is basically the sole breadwinner. I feel very stuck.

There are positions if you are willing to leave the state. Anyways hopefully things will open up after the first of the year.

Can you get a small apartment, room, in Springfield or wherever you can find a job, and commute that way? This way you would only be out of town a couple nights/week then go back home. No relocation required and at least you'd have the ft work you need.
Also you say you have a job lined up for the end of jan. At least there's hope, so don't give up on it - it may still come through regardless of what you hear on the news.

Not sure if you are married with a family, but if you are not, then moving might be the best thing.
Sometimes the jobs may not be where you live.
PS: Go talk to your former instructors and see if one of them has suggestions.

You have posted many posts about this situation with a number of responses and wonderful advice, even suggestions of signing on with an agency for now. Unfortunately sometimes we have to go with what we can get for at least a year, then you can get something in the area you want. This happened to me...I started out as a clinic nurse....and then hospital bedside nurse. It's now been a year as a hospital nurse in an acute medical rehab hospital, but now I feel I have skills to pursue the hospitals in the city. Some of the nurses from my community hosptital are now nurses at the Brigham and other large city hospitals. So the medical facility that you are now per diem in....ask to become staff nurse full time or whatever you can get to achieve enough weekly to pay off your debts.......or apply elsewhere. Takes a lot of humility sometimes.
Hope this did not come off as harsh.........just concerned and wish to help!
Hi there. The only place I am currently working in is pedi psych and they only have per diem available. Their core staff nurses have been there for years and there is only one nurse per shift. I'm very fortunate that the nurses are actually giving up their hours to me so I can have some. I've applied to subacute, LTAC, and LTC...I don't feel I'm above starting in any place.

Try a community health center, myself and 2 other new RN classmates of mine got positions within 2 weeks of applying at a health center.
