So sad. :(

Well, tomorrow I hit the 7 month mark since graduation and 5 1/2 months since I got my license and still no real job. Still sending out resumes and making calls daily. I'm working two very per diem RN positions averaging 3-5 shifts/month...probably going to have to look into getting a job in some other field for right now. I'm supposed to have a position at the end of January but I'm truly doubting with the state of the economy and budget cuts that therhe will be any money to create the position for me. All my student loans have gone into repayment for a total of $506/month, not to mention my $9,000 in credit card debt from school, rent, car payment/insurance, phone bill, and living expenses. I'm feeling so depressed and really, really scared. :(

I graduated in May, passed my boards in July, and just got a job. It's in LTC, and 16 hours a week , so I have to stay at my current job (which I've been trying to leave for 7 years). At least I get to use my skills.

Sorry for what is happening to you guys. I think I would run out of steam after a period of time as well but keep plugging away. These challenges in life come for a reason, you can face them and overcome them.

You are not alone. :( I passed seven months ago today, and still nothing. I did find some LTC options back in Sept, but I was holding out for med-surg orientations in January. But it seems most hospitals aren't running them this winter. It stinks, but in the long run it will work out. I hope you find something soon.

My LTC job got cancelled, so I'm still job hunting, 8 months after graduation and 6 months after I got my license. I'm now looking at May 2009 New Grad positions in other states.

I applied at Youville, but they want BSNs. I have an AS (ADN?).

believe me you're doing yourself a favor. administration that won't back you, chronic understaffing, unsupportive coworkers, tons of agency, lots of emergencies and chasing your tail.

This is all caused by the economic crisis. Nurses are working more now, taking on extra shifts, and trying to make up for a loss of income they may have encountered. Also, less nurses are retiring. All this means a very limited number of openings for new grads. Nursing positions for new grads will open up gradually as the economy begins to recover (hopefully within the year). My cousin is a nurse manager at childrens in Boston. She is reccomending new grads to look for out of state jobs and get that experience under their belt. By the time they gain the experience the Boston hospitals will have more openings and will be more likely to hire you.

I just wanted to update. I was HappyPediRN and changed my name awhile back because I didn't know if I'd end up getting a job in peds. I'm happy to report that I will get to be a pedi nurse! I start Monday in a maternal/child float position. My main unit is pediatrics and I cross train to women's surgical and L&D/postpartum/nursery. It took nine months to find this job but it was worth it to be able to find something I love. Hang in there new grads.
