How much do you owe in student loans if you have any after nursing school? I'm already pretty far in debt with prereqs. I was wondering how much is "average" after you graduate from nursing school?
Wish I could be one of those posting "$0" ! I'm jealous! :)
I'm graduating in a matter of days and will have ~$25,000 in student loan debt. I'm already calculating how many, many years it's going to take me to pay it off (we're on a debt-free, Dave-Ramsey-type plan - too bad I didn't discover that BEFORE I took out all these student loans). :)
I owed $14,000 from the LPN program I went to. I had the loan deferred while I went to school for my RN. I paid it off with in 18 months. I owed nothing from the RN degree. I had a free ride except for books, uniforms, lab fees and stuff like that since I had a parent working at the college and free tuition for family was a fringe benefit.
:w00t: I won't owe a penny!!!! I am military in the AFELA program so i am still receiving my base pay every month & the GI bill & I received the pell grant & since Katrina happened book companies have donated our books for free & we have a katrina fund. This has been a dream come true (not the hurricane of course)! I am doing well in school & it is not costing me a penny.
With the CPNE and all of the exams, and books, from Regents College (now Excelsier) and NCLEX-RN, I think it was around $1,300 or maybe $!,400 bones for the whole thing, and I paid for it as I went through the 8 or 9 month ADN ordeal.
Now, the BSN completion deal is costing me about $14,000 bones, not including books, and the MSN will be another $15K. What a difference 12 years does to the cost of education:uhoh3:

The great thing about schools in California is that the tuition is not that much. At the Junior Community College level, the tuition is $26 a unit. So, I have that going for me. As for debt and loans, I will have none of that. I start in JUne and have saved up the money to cover the cost of the whole two years of the program, including books, uniforms, immunizations, tuition, First Aid and CPR certification, etc. I also have additional money put aside for personal expenses and my wife will be covering all the bills including mortgage because I will not be working. Because I live 3 miles from the college, I will be walking back and forth (even in the rain during that season) which will save me money on gas. Because I will not be driving as many miles per year, my insurance will be cheaper which my wife will cover. God bless this wonderful and beautiful women of mine. It's true what they say, "behind every man is a good women" and she really is. With all that said, I'm still scared shitless!

I'm about $27k down. I am graduating this week and still have $3k in my bank account - if I don't put that right back into the loan (which I probably won't, I will probably use it to invest in something else) it will be $30k.
