I owe $0. I went to a community college- got my ADN- paid as I went, and had tuition reimbursement from the hospital where I was an Aide. We all take the same NCLEX, and I know many people who went through BSN programs--and didn't pass the boards. And, at least where I live, it doesn't affect your pay at all if you are ASN or BSN.....all that matters for employment is passing boards as RN.

Good luck to you....I would never want to start my career out with so much debt.

Sometimes in order to get ahead you do incur debt. Educational debt however is an expenditure you will never, ever regret. I was able to do my LPN and ADN debt-free. However, for my BSN and MSN I owe $42,000 and then another $9,000 for my post-MSN. However, I will be able to recoup this in higher salary.

I will owe zero for my ADN, but I also did TMS (tuition management) during school and paid my tuition like a car payment 9-10 months out of the year. During the 2-3 months during the year I didn't have to make payments to TMS, I put the money back.

I am debt free (but poor!) after ADN/RN at local community college. My new job pays 80-90% of BSN costs so I will be taking advantage of that benefit.

For your information, Wyoming has a nurse scholarship/loan program which pays based on need. The loan is forgiven by working in Wyoming, $12K forgiven for each year worked. Lots of candidates for most nursing programs but you can get into some of them.

Not a penny! Like a PP said, I utilized tuition reimbursement from my work. The second I got my last check from them I kicked them to the curb. :lol2: I have now been enjoying my last few months of NS employment free!

:nono: You shouldnt imply its the degree that is at fault for one not passing the NCLEX. You shouldn't make sweeping rationalizations like that. I know many many many people from diploma and ADN programs that didnt pass boards and paid more than what ive paid, that makes no differece. Really lets not go there..sheesh...I don't think this needs to turn out to be another ADN/BSN debate.

Secondly, here where I live, I pay 5k less for my masters degree in nursing (MN) than the diploma nurses at the local hospital. Just because the ADN MIGHT be cheaper in your area than a BSN doesnt mean its that way everywhere.

I don't think there is an average for debt. Some have to take out loans there is no other option. Id just try your hardest to keep costs down but if you cant dont worry about it. If you are going to be in debt better be in debt for school than credit cards and what not.

I saved money from my factory job to pay for a 4 month long college based CNA program. I worked full time as a CNA to support myself and pay for LPN school.

I worked full time as an LPN to support myself and pay my way through RN school.

I got a couple of small merit scholarships along the way.

I took no loans and incurred zero debt.

Because of this kind of thing, your employer will think twice before helping anyone else go to nursing school. Don't be so proud of your unethical behavior. :nono:

Hehehe! Unethical Behavior? :lol2: Such a broad statement with no knowledge of the situation. Don't worry, tuition reimbursement isn't going anywhere. I'm sure that I'm not the ONLY one in America to use tuition reimbursement, and then not slave away at the same place for eternity to supress future 'ethical dilemas' for future students. I wasn't aware that I should look out for the best interests for the corporation and future nursing students instead of myself.

Maybe I'll use my new job for the critical care class as well! We'll see.
