HEY THERE!! I've also had a 6 yr. career as a psych nurse (some of that time was in substance abuse, where co-occurring illnesses are common) and just now moved into corrections. I start at the county jail soon and I am really looking forward to this exciting change. Let's keep in touch so we can share experiences and resources. I want to be the best nurse that I can be!
You got it! :)

Ditto! As a new grad, lpn, with psych & ems hx I am THRILLED to have been just hired at a local correctional transfer facility. I think it's a great opportunity. I encourage you to read all the threads here.. I did & they helped me decide on this path as well as gave me tons of great, great advice. Thanks all!

Hello, I am so happy to hear from all of you too. I am a first-year RN - working at two County jails for almost a year now. I really do love it also. I think it is a very good fit for me for a variety of reasons. Your background in Psych nursing is a big asset I would guess.

I know where I'm from they frequently hire lvns in correctional facilities.
How is it, working in a correctional facility? I want to consider working there but I don't know what to expect. Not sure if I feel safe working with criminals and afraid of some attack of some sort. Are they in cuffs when they're under care, or free?

Hi! I'm a new LPN as of May of this year, and my first job is in corrections. I love it and my company said that they like both experienced and new LPNs because it's a very different environment for everyone. Good luck to you!

Hi MALENURSE50. I am glad you found a position in corrections. I am relocating back to California soon. I currently work in Maricopa County Arizona jails and want to get into the jails system in California. Can you give me more informations about applying and the hiring process.
Thanks
