I know what you mean. The office staff steal my boxes of nice, sift, thick tissues. Even after I labeled them "NURSE" they still take them form my storage room & have them on their desks!! And this is the SAME office staff that has a heart attack if I need a stamped envelope (which comes out of the SCHOOL BUDGET... unlike my Kleenex boxes). Grrrrr.
I know how frustrating this is but I don't think the staff has any idea on this type of thing without being made aware. I'm sure that custodian thought the gloves were paid for by the school and available to anyone who worked there so it was ok to use them. I think it's a good idea to remind your staff how this stuff is paid for, who it is for, and that even though it looks like a lot at times it has to last the entire year.
IBesides, he should have his own box of gloves to protect himself.
This is my point....they DO! And they have to order theirs so they are well aware of how the budgets work. This guy just does not keep them on him, or does not want to walk the 40 feet to the janitor's supply closet to get his own. For some reason, in my experience, nurse's supplies = community supplies.

Just noticed when I was walking back to my office one of the custodians grabbing gloves out of my stash to take out the trash from my bathroom. I have my own measly budget of $200 for supplies for the year, and he is using 2 pairs PER DAY of my expensive, vinyl gloves that I need because of a latex sensitivity. I had been trying to figure out how I went through 4 boxes since August...now I know
My gloves will be under lock and key from here on out. Cannot believe I can't leave a box of gloves out in MY OWN OFFICE! Grrrr!
