well I have now failed two tests in statistics. Talked to the instructor and it doesn't look good. I will probably end up dropping the course and trying again next semester. I'm just so frustrated cause now I'll have to apply for the Fall 08.

That sucks, I'm actually taking stat right now and know how difficult it can be sometimes. I would just suggest talking to the professor and going in during her office hours for help.

I would drop it especially after failing two test. When I first got to college I was so uninformed...I ended up failing three courses my first semester because I didn't know anything about dropping classes...I ended up failing statistics as well with a book that I paid $125 for but replaced it with a B...and that was without a book. Now that I'm back in school, those F's are biting me in the you know what. I probably have no chance of getting into my first choice for an ABSN program...UNC-Chapel Hill.
If I were you, I wouldn't even bother talking to the teacher. Usually there's 4 maybe 5 exams a semester and you've already failed 2 it'll be hard to bring your grade up to a B...you could probably bring your grade up to a C and that's if you get all A's on the last couple of tests. Considering how competitive the Nursing programs are, you need all the A's and B's you can get.
Trust me, I know how hard it is to put something off, even if for only one semester. I've been wanting to get into nursing school since August 06 but I can't even apply until May or maybe September of 2008 and I won't start until January 2009. Now that sucks!!!
Whatever you do I wish you the best of luck!!!
Question: When applying to nursing school, can they tell that you have dropped a course or taken it more than once?

I just started Statistics (and I'm terrible at math). The teacher is awesome. The book is also great. Written by a woman determined to help people understand. It is called "Statistics" "Plain and Simple". By Sherri L. Jackson.
This teacher promises we will get an A or B, nothing less. He is funny, caring, smart.
Two of my friends have taken the class and both got A's. They love this teacher.
I'm grateful - especially after reading this thread. I imagine this would be a very hard class without a determined and compassionate teacher.
I wish you the best.

I don't think it shows up on your transcript if you drop the class but it does show that you've replaced the grade if you take the class over because either you failed or received a grade lower than a C.

Statistics:o I feel your pain. My advice is find a really smart high school kid to help you. That's what I did. The teacher couldn't explain it so I could understand it at all. I still don't understand it, but I did get through it. I'll never understand why nurses need it.

Generally if you drop a course after the first week or so, it shows up as a "W" (withdraw) on your transcript.
I have always considered myself to be very bad at math (not because of previous grades, just because I know it is a weaker academic area for me), but I got an A in university level stats. I studied quite a bit for it, and was determined. Also keep in mind that stats, like any math or science course, builds on what you have learned. If you failed two tests already, it's not very likely that you'll be able to pull off a decent grade on the next few tests. You need to have a solid, working knowledge of the first half of the class in order to be successful in the second half.
Does your school offer any sort of tutoring for stats? Even just a few one-on-one meetings with someone who can help you understand the material could really make a difference next time around.
Good luck!

I feel ya. I have stats online and I got a 68 on my first test. I've aced the quizzes that we take online but the test I just sucked. I'm going to take a test next week and see what happens.. I don't like stats at all!
Thanks for all your encouragement and replies. Since I'm just now considering withdrawling it will be and WF since I'm failing the course right now. My teacher friend suggested I take it at the local jr. college and it probably be a little easier. It sucks but I can't take a chance of a F. My GPA right now is only 3.2

Stats is hard. My class was a nice, friendly class at first. Since things have gotten so hard (think two-way ANOVA), nobody speaks. Everyone just sits there as if stunned like deer in headlights. Nobody asks questions anymore. It's kinda like...what to ask the professor when you don't even know where to start with your question? Our class average on the last exam was failing.
I'm very surprised so many people find statistics difficult. I am currently taking AP statistics b/c I'm a senior in high school and trying to get as many prerequisites out of the way as I possibly can right now and if I score a 3 on the AP exam at the end of the year I wont have to take statistics next year. I'm pretty confident in getting a 3 because this a fairly simple course as long as you pay attention and ask questions when need be. Do you believe that taking a course in college compared to high school is more difficult? (Considering it is an AP class and therefore suppose to be equivalent to the basic statistic course, I don't think so.) I have taken actual college courses in a community college and I find them fairly similar to AP classes taught in high school, in respect to the work load.
