So all that time everyone was telling me that I wouldn't have a life during my first year of nursing school, I kind of wish I paid them no mind
The first semester is coming to a close and I'm starting to regret quitting my job to focus solely on nursing school. Don't get me wrong I HATED my job (worked at a grocery store around the corner from my house...convenience) but I feel like I could've been a little bit more productive. I was told that the nursing program will be more stressful and more of a load next semester but this semester, I've been sitting on my butt and studying/writing care plans. I know many of you are probably saying well get of your bum and get a job then . I'm just venting. I'd really like to get started on getting some sort of volunteer experience, but I don't know where to start when none of it really has anything to do with healthcare.
When the semester ends, I can get my CNA license without taking the test, by proof of completing Fundamentals. I plan to work per diem with that...hopefully with an externship or tech position. Anyway, I hope all of you are having an amazing semester!
You'll find that some people have NO free time. They study and have to look at school stuff all the time to stay on top of it. Others will have no problem doing leisure things. When I was in my BSN program...I would play xbox, fly my RC planes, draw, read, watch tv, go on vacation....pretty much live it up and then study a couple of days before my tests. Heck I even drew most of my sketches DURING class. I found that if I was relaxed, comfortable, etc...I would retain all the lecture materials. I could not sit there jotting down notes for 3 hours like some people. I would take my little notes that I DID take, and compare them with the podcasts my teachers made, then study the powerpoints with my one person I did like studying with. Some people accused me of cheating because I'd pop out a 96 on a test when the average was a 74. It really is doing what works for you =).
I have kids, so when I am not in school I am with them. I don't have alone time. My time away from school is spent reading my text books/notes, doing house work, running kids here and there for appts, soccer, school, laundry, cooking. Weekends are spent with kids soccer games, church, and maybe once a month a date with my hubby or a moms night out. But it's ok because I know it's worth all this stress and hassle in the end!

your a kinethetic learner! lucky you !! im one of the poor pitiful that have to saturate themselve in the material until I bleed and breathe the lecture. :)
Now that I'm done with Med Surg 1 & 2, I have a lot more time. I work, make dinner, clean house, laundry, manage our finances, etc. I have 2 TV shows that I try to watch each week and that is Big Bang Theory and 16&Pregnant/Teen Mom, I also go grocery shopping, enjoy coffee, sudoku, movies on occasion, and study for fun! I am considering getting a part time job (25 hours) since my 14 isn't cutting it financially and I want a new job...I have the time for it now. Compared to last semester, this semester is a BREEZE!!!!
Work, cook (I love to cook!), spend time with my fiance, family, and friends, aaaand that's about it. Oh yeah, and plan a wedding! I'm getting married in August.
Can't wait until school is over. There are so many other things I used to do like read for fun, exercise, travel, etc. I graduate in May and I'm going on a Caribbean cruise a couple weeks later... CANNOT. WAIT.
Exercise! My first semester of nursing school I ran my first half marathon. It is such a stress reliever...plus, it has boosted my immune system function as never before. Of course there are times when I fall behind, but I always strive to put in at least 30 minutes a day of cardio of some sort. Even if I have to take TACTIS cards or powerpoint handouts with me as I peddle the elliptical, I never look back on it as time wasted. :)
Between school and work, I have no free time! I do manage to find time to keep teaching Sunday School, though, because the time studying the Bible and preparing the lesson helps to keep me centered :) Plus, the kids help me to have a laugh (I teach 10-12 y/o).
Other than that, here's my week:
Monday - Lab from 8:30 - 12:30; Work from 1:00 - 6:00; Studying until 12:00
Tuesday - Clinical from 8:30 - 12:30; Work from 1:00 - 6:00; Studying until 12:00
Wednesday and Thursday - Lecture from 8:30 - 11:00; Work from 11:30 - 6:00; Studying until 12:00
Friday - Clinical from 8:30 - 12:30; Studying until 12:00
Saturday and Sunday is filled w/ laundry, grocery shopping, preparing for Sunday school, and, oh yeah, STUDYING!!!
