well... we eat donuts on nightshift too. it is our morning, after all. :-p whatever you bring for days will work for nights!

It's my afternoon. I sleep after night shift.

I had this at a baby shower recently and it was amazing! It's healthy but not tooo healthy if you know what I mean. :)

Maybe donuts might send them to sleep.

Maybe try something savory - at least with some protein.

We do cheese and crackers, mini quiches, nice toasted sandwiches, pizza.

And for something kind of healthy - a good quality chilled pure orange juice is always appreciated.

I am sorry but the vegetable sticks and that kind of thing might not be eaten. Digestion can get a little strange overnight and many avoid too much fibre

What a nice gesture - am sure they will appreciate it

Bring whatever you want. Everybody eats AND the majority of people eat sweets, even if it's just in moderation.

We are first semester ADNs and we are chipping in for a big vase full of an assortment of Hershey's Kisses. It looks really impressive and we really love our staff so it's totally worth it!

Such a nice gesture!!

However I think we need to steer away from bringing in sweets to work all the time. Its no wonder so many nurses become overweight. I think little finger sandwiches, or cheese and crackers is nice for night shift. A little protein at the beginning of a shift helps keep you awake and prevents late night blood sugar dips and the ensuing binge.

Oh hummus and veggies is always a good one too!

When I first started nursing I always thought it was strange how so many nurses were so unhealthy and ate so poorly. We should know better! Before I was a nurse I worked as a personal trainer at a large gym. All the staff there always encouraged each other to eat healthy and brought in health snacks all the time. We would have been embarrassed to be seen gorging on donuts! I realize we are human and like to have a treat once in a while but I think as nurses we should be promoting a healthy lifestyle!

Food is always good with nurses. Just make sure the night shift's share is set aside. Day shift tends to hog the food. Night shift comes on, and half of night shift's share is already opened. Wow, I think i just discovered a pet peeve .

And its all picked through and destroyed. lol

To OP-

Please please please get a fruit or vegetable platter. I'm sick of cake and cookies brought in by family. Today we had 3 different cakes. And they were all delicious. And I'm going on a cruise to mexico next week so I'll have to find some way to get into a bathing suit lol

I too love sweets but they are hard to resist when there is cake or chocolate or cookie in the break room every night!

Some different things that people have brought in:

Vietnamese noodle dish

Eggrolls/springrolls

Lasagna

Zuchini bread/Banana bread

Fat free chips and homemade vegetable salsa

Strawberries dipped in dark chocolate and rolled in pistachios

Those would be yummy. During the christmas mess of crap brought in by families.. one daughter of a resident bought in a box of clementines. I was so happy to have those clementines because I was so sick of cookies, candy, breads, cakes, etc

I think a fruit/cheese or veggie plate sounds way more refreshing mid-shift than a bunch of carbs and fat. I like to save those for when I don't have to get up again!

I work night shift and we love chips and salsa!! Sometimes I bring stuff to make sandwiches. Veggie trays are awesome:up:

pizza is always good.
