As a prospective student, I sometimes get "scared off" reading alot of the posts on allnurses.

So many UNHAPPY nurses and AWFUL job situations.

So, since I would like to accentuate the positive,,, I would like an informal survey of Nurses who Are happy with nursing as their choice of career.

Please let me know that there are GOOD WORKING ENVIRONMENTS out there!!!!!!

I LOVE nursing. I have a been a nurse for 20 years and I wouldn't change it for the world. I'll be honest, with the nursing shortage right now, the workplace is not always the greatest or easiest to work in, but the love of taking care of my patients and their families, I wouldn't trade for the world. I am a critical care nurse in a small 8 bed ICU. It can be stressful but also very rewarding!

Come join us in what I consider the BEST profession in the world!

If I won the powerball jackpot I wouldn't work, but since that hasn't happened, I do enjoy being a nurse. I like the hospital, I feel valued, and my coworkers are great. The Christmas bonus is a nice one too.

CHRISTMAS BONUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LUCKY YOU

smiles wide...

Dear pat8585,

In nursing, just as in any other field, there are good working environments and there are bad ones. For me, most of the days are good and I love it and I am very happy with my career choice. Just make sure you research facilities before apply for a job.

Good Luck

My two sisters became nurses. When I was in college trying to decide what I wanted to be when I grew up, they said, "Go to nursing school. You can support yourself until you decide." I loved/love it better than either of them.

:bugeyes:I love nursing and I have a great job. The money is good too. It depends on your part of the country and cost of living.

I love being there when people need me. I enjoy seeing how predictable people are (in response to pain, confusion etc) across age, sex and ethnicity. It is a privilege to be allowed so close to someone at their most memorable/stressful times like birth, death or a tragedy..

:smiley_abThe work environment can be good or bad. Yet that goes for everywhere. Read webcomics and corporate strategy books. Watch "The Office." A hospital is no different. Maybe it should be. But hey--you have to deal with people and they have to deal with you. May as well do some good in the process.

Become a nurse. Tolerate nursing school, and COME WORK AT OUR HOSPITAL!!

That's mainly because nurses don't often toot their own horns & are much more likely to post a problem or complaint.

I've been doing this for 24 years. It's had it's ups & down & my only (very minor) regret is that I wish I'd gone from EMT to Paramedic, and put in 20 years on the FD, before retiring...and then becoming an RN as a 2nd career.:balloons:
