sketchers shape ups

Published

Hey everyone :)

Anyone try the shape ups by sketchers? Are they good for a nursing student?

Thanks:D

I bought a pair a couple of weeks ago and the jury is still out on them. They DO "work out" my legs and ankles -- but that just means they stress them a lot. I have some chronic problems with my lower extremities and I am still not sure if the Shape Ups will help by making them stronger -- or cause more problems by stressing them too much. I'm curious as to how other people will respond to this thread.

I only wear them ocassionally.

I was just on the reebok thread and noticed this thread as well so I thought I would post my thoughts. I think all these shoes sound exactly the same as the old mbt shoe. Honestly, I think all these shoes are a waste of money. I prefer the Dansko shoes. They are inexpensive and great on my feet. Perfect for us women on our feet all day at the hospital.

I got these shoes originally because I was having foot issues. They are wonderful and IMHO are better than Danskos because I don't turn my ankle in them. My legs and butt are firmer too, and my legs don't hurt at the end of the day. They come in all white if that makes a difference. I say, go for it.

I'm only on day 3 of my new pair of ShapeUps, but I love 'em. Before I had them, my knees and feet would be sore and tired at the end of a 12 hour day. Now, I don't notice it at all.

I don't know if it really firms and tones anything, I certainly don't feel like I am getting a workout, but you can't beat them for comfort. I think these will eventually be as popular for nurses as crocs.

Hi I know this is an old thread but how have the shape-up worked for you? I am about to start my first nursing job and was thinking of buying a pair.

Ask your ED/Ortho what they have seen. We took a pair back, it was hard they were wonderful! We still returned them.

I bought some last June and have worn them every day to work. They've been great on the feet, no reduction in knee pain.

I am skeptical about the toning aspect, but I bought mine for the comfort factor. They feel wonderful and my knee and heel pain disappear when I wear them.

Update to my Shape-Ups XW experience: I loved the Shape-Ups at first. They stretched out some after being worn for two to four workdays, and now I see I should have bought my regular shoe size not 1/2 size bigger.

Mine are the women's white Work XW, low rocker and it's laced shoe.

I found they are still comfortable to walk in, but they poke me in the plantar fascia when I stand still. If I have to stand and watch something, my feet instantly hurt. Actually, my feet feel like they are on fire. The rockers stress one of my knees, too, so now it hurts after each day. I have gone to bed hurting so much that I can't fall asleep. So, the ShapeUps XW are going to Goodwill.

I went back to wearing the Reebok Evaluate training shoes again.

Please, please don't send them to Goodwill! Please?

i actually wore a pair of shape ups all through nursing school and my feet never hurt, which was great bc no matter what brand of shoes i wore before they all hurt. i have always had knee pain from playing sports and was excited about the shape ups being super comfy. sadly about a month ago during a 12 hr shift with my preceptor my hips started to hurt and i've never had hip pain before. i shared this with a fellow student whose father is an orthopaedic surgeon. she said he has had several pts come in complaining of hip, knee, and/or ankle pain after wearing these shoes for x amount of time. obviously this made me really nervous because that wasn't the first time i'd heard about hip pain related to the shape ups and because of that i no longer wear them. so now i'm back to square one and also would like some shoe-advice from some seasoned nurses.

thanks.
