  1. I work at a suburban hospital about 45 minutes from my house. When I graduated nursing school I was able to land interviews with most of the major city hospitals but never landed a position. This I attribute to the fact that my school alone graduated 500 nurses and there are about 7-10 nursing schools in a 30 mile radius. The city is saturated with nurses and the hiring is mainly for nurses with experience unless you already had a foot in the door. L&D is even harder because people don't usually leave that specialty so the turnover is very slow. I would not leave my current position until I knew for sure I would land something else. Many of my fellow graduates are still loking for positions. There are Nurses at my current hopsital who have been RN's for almost a year and still working as techs. Good luck to you. The way I landed interviews was persistance. Keep calling HR and making yourself known and beef up the resume!!
  2. Op: there is Nothing wrong with coming here and asking questions. That is why we have allnurses. I think if people have a problem with your diligence they should not even bother to comment. There isn't an obligation to do so. I for one have had almost the same dillema as you. I am a graduate RN with a BSN and start grad school in the fall. I do not know what I want to specialize in but I know I want to further my education. I say keep asking your questions because that is the ONLY way you will be able to find answers. It's called research and you will be doing alot of it in NUrsing School.. (asking questions) probably more than 41 in a little over 3'months .
  3. It is possible that he may be a bloodless pt.. For example, Jehovah's Witness who don't accept blood products and they are maybe using iron as an alternative to try an raise hgb level.
  4. I am sooo sorry you encountered this. I am a new grad as well and even though the economy is bad right now, it is for that very reason that I refused to even apply to a SNF/LTC. It seems as though it is all about politics and making money that administration lacks regard for it's employees. I know some hospital jobs have issues but this takes the cake. To turn your head to staff abuse is unethical. Have you reported them? God speed in your next search!
  5. I think it may be more of the stress than the L&D. When my husband lost his job for a few months I wasn't feelng that sexy either.
  6. I know this is old but how have things worked out for you in these past couple of years?
  7. Hi I know this is an old thread but how have the shape-up worked for you? I am about to start my first nursing job and was thinking of buying a pair.
