sketchers shape ups

Published

Hey everyone :)

Anyone try the shape ups by sketchers? Are they good for a nursing student?

Thanks:D

I worked a 12hr shift and then went to the shoe store and tried on several different pairs. The sketchers shape ups felt like I was walking on air. I say get a pair you won't regret it.

I have to laugh - didn't realize there was a footwear folder :) I just commented on another thread about my shapeups. I love them - I am a large women, and have been having problems going down stairs as it hurts when I hit the stair, but my shapeups give me such good padding that I can go down stairs without any problem.

BUT - the big problem with them (according to my PT) is I tend to walk on the outside of my feet. I have know this forever because the outside of the soles of my shoes are always worn down way compared to the inside). He suggested orthotics to correct that, but said the shapeups would be too soft to allow the orthotics to do their job.

I would give them a try though. They are heavenly, and if you don't walk on the outside of your feet like me they probably are nearly perfect for nursing footwear.

These shoes change character with steady wear, and definitely if worn all-day, every day.

Mine had that feel, at first. But after they wear-in a while, the leather stretches and the shoe loosens up. So, I'd say, buy your regular size. And I really believe that the padding starts to lose some of that resilience pretty darned soon.

Also, I wear a small size, 5.5. That would be my correct size in ShapeUPs, but I bought a 6 b/c the 5.5 felt too snug at the store. So, I have a short foot, and a little extra length of sole at the toe, and the soles have now become less flat and have more "rocker" than when new. I think, perhaps, with a larger foot and more body weight, a larger person may be keeping that sole flatter than I can. But I have a new pair, and a used pair, and if I put the 2 pairs of ShapeUps side-by-side, the used ones are definitely more curved than they started out.

For whatever reason, my ShapeUps bother my knees more than any other joint. But I had a fracture in my left ankle some some months ago, and I sometimes felt a little ache starting up in that ankle after a full day with the ShapeUps.

Fitting shoes to feet is like fitting saddles to horses, lol: What works well for one individual might be a poor choice and an instrument of torture to one with different conformation and way of moving. So, I think it's impossible to determine what works for you until you try wearing it a while. But you can glean a lot of information from reviews and comments posted by others.

I wear sketchers shapups too and my feet still hurt. I have two different types of foot massagers and they have helped me tremendously. One foot massager goes us to my knees and works heaven like an scd. The other one pounds on the bottom of my feet.

I had two pair of tone-up type shoes; one from Dr. Scholls and the other from Skechers. Good calf work out if you walk in them a certain way. Did nothing for my rear or thighs--not that I expected them to. I bought them in hopes they wouldn't hurt my feet like most other shoes do. For a few weeks they were both very comfortable, but soon found them to aggravate my foot pain worse than most shoes. I also started to experience sciatic pain whenever I wore these shoes. So I got rid of them after only two and half quarters of [only] clinical use and replaced them with Skechers Revv 2. Maybe I just need a new set of feet.

I love mine. I really didn't notice the toning aspect; rather my feet were no longer fatigued at the end of my shift. I originally worked in a SNF; major walking between the hallways, long 13-14 hour shifts. Now I am at the hospital. Before the skechers I would immediately have to take my shoes off; now I take them off because they are icky. Love them so much, I bought another pair and they are in the box waiting for my first ones to wear out.

I have been wearing MBT's for the last 5 years which are the original "shapeups" They relieved my hip and knee ache's within 3 days. I tried on the Sketchers but did not find them as...cushy I guess is the term. MBT's are way more expensive but they are still good after 5 years and used to replace my shoes every 6 months.

I also recently bought these shoes, and I hate them. They give me knee pain for around 4 days. I will not wear again, and the shoe place wont let me return them. Terrible.
