Hi everyone!
I wanted to start a thread for the people who are applying to San Joaquin Delta College's nursing program for FALL 2016 cohort. I know the application period is still a month away but I'm just so excited. I still need to take my TEAS. Maybe we can all get to know each other and compare scores?
Good luck to all of us !
By meeting minimum requirements, does that mean if you submit paperwork supporting all info on your application (criteria and points are correct), then does that guarantees a spot in the program?Thank you!
No it does not. They have about 30 positions and there are probably over a hundred applicants that met the minimum requirements. Some people will be selected, some people will be on the alternates list. What are your points?
Yes, you are correct. Delta is based off of points and 10% lottery. After documentation is submitted and the points are calculated they will pick the top 30 based on points and the other 10% by lottery. When you are asked to submit the documentation, the administration has not yet verified any of your self reported information. During this time, there will be several people who will be disqualified for reporting things that the nursing program finds to be false or they decide points will not be awarded for that particular area. I have seen several people submit documentation and end up number #30 on the alternate list.
A lot of schools do things this way. For example, Sac State takes the top 150 applicants based on self reported information. Those top 150 then have all of their information verified and are chosen based off of their points. The top 80 make it into the program and the rest are placed on the alternates list. I hope this clarifies things for you!
With Delta it is hard to tell where the true point cutoff was for prior semesters because there is no way to tell who got in through the lottery. With your points you have a good chance of getting in. Even if you do make the alternates list, do not be discouraged, with your points you will probably be in the top 10. For the fall semester, a lot of people decline their spots for other programs and the top 10 from the alternates list will most likely be admitted to the program. Good luck!
Thank you very much for the encouragement and reassurance. I feel so much better just hearing that from someone!
And another possible piece of good news is, when I went and spoke with one of the ADN Program coordinators, she said in recent semesters they had taken up to 44 students! I hope they squeeze in just a few more people to make everyone happy! After all, there will soon be many nursing jobs available with not enough nurses to fill them! Good luck to you!

I believe you have a couple of weeks to get in your supporting documentation. Being invited to submit documentation does not mean you have a spot in the program, it means that based on the self-reported information you met their minimum requirements for the program.
