Sitting for AANP boards

Published

Hi everyone!

I am sitting for the AANP Adult NP boards in 10 days. I've exhausted all resources...literally. I did Fitzgerald CDs 3 months ago. I also did her review book shortly after that. I have also done the APEA CD review (twice). I have also done Hollier's (APEA) book, Leik's book, and a live Barkley review. I am now finishing up Barkley's book and working on APEA Qbank questions. The nerves are setting in and I'm just wondering if there is any other advice to be successful on boards. I feel like it has been difficult to assess how I'm doing. The APEA Qbank questions have a lot of repeats so I'm scoring around the 80s. I took the AANP practice exam about 4 weeks ago and got a 68% (66% is passing) and I just retook it today and scored a 97% (because it was the exact same test). I passed my LPN and RN boards on my first try and don't have awful test anxiety but I am really getting nervous about this. Thanks in advance for any advice!

It sounds like you've got everything covered really!! Make sure to look up why you miss questions to drive the point home. If there are any topics really confusing you try to teach them to somebody.

Otherwise try to relax every now and then!! It can do more good than anything.

GOOD LUCK

Great advice!! Thank you so much. I already have a list on a notepad of things to review the last week before boards. I'll use those topics :)

Just go for it. You will never truly feel ready! It sounds like you have done everything possibly to prepare.

Best advice when taking the test. Is to answer the question they are asking! Don't read into it. I have done the Adult and the Adult Gerontology both AANP and passed both with little studying. You can do it!

Awesome!!! Thank you so much. Will keep that in mind :)

Since you have done a lot of review, I assume you know the material pretty well. Pay close attention to Fitz and Leik question answering strategies and review Leik exam tips for each chapter. Know general drugs for treating, don't bother with specific dosages. Review recommended guidelines. Good luck.

Awesome...I definitely plan to do Leik's exam tips, as I have heard from a friend that they were extremely helpful. Thank you so much!

I just took the exam last week. Sounds like you're doing everything you need to do to be prepared. It wasn't as bad as I though my it would be a lot! There was a lot of derm, musculoskeletal, endo, and normal physiological changes in the elderly. Good luck!

Great! Thanks for the info. Did you take adult or adult-gerontology? I am sitting for just adult.

I did the FNP exam.

Good luck. Just remember dont change your answer on the exam if you are unsure cause you will likely change it to the wrong one.
