Sitting for AANP boards

Hi everyone!

I am sitting for the AANP Adult NP boards in 10 days. I've exhausted all resources...literally. I did Fitzgerald CDs 3 months ago. I also did her review book shortly after that. I have also done the APEA CD review (twice). I have also done Hollier's (APEA) book, Leik's book, and a live Barkley review. I am now finishing up Barkley's book and working on APEA Qbank questions. The nerves are setting in and I'm just wondering if there is any other advice to be successful on boards. I feel like it has been difficult to assess how I'm doing. The APEA Qbank questions have a lot of repeats so I'm scoring around the 80s. I took the AANP practice exam about 4 weeks ago and got a 68% (66% is passing) and I just retook it today and scored a 97% (because it was the exact same test). I passed my LPN and RN boards on my first try and don't have awful test anxiety but I am really getting nervous about this. Thanks in advance for any advice!

One more question, deediaz. Were there any EKG strips on the exam? I was told at my Barkley review that AANP was going to be coming out with EKG questions soon. Thank you so much for any info!! :)

I did the FNP and I was also told that there could be EKGs. I didn't have any strips but I did have one that described a-fib.

Awesome. Thank you so much!! :)

I did the Barclay online questions. Holier books. Leik was the major resource. The night before the test I put all the documentation I needed for the test site in my car including written directions to the site. The morning of the test I went to Church and my husband drove me to the test area and we found a place to eat breakfast and I made sure I was at the test site 30 minutes before I was due to take the test. This helped make sure I wasn't rushing to get there. I also listened to the same music while I studied. This helped me while I took the test when I started to get tired. Also, Leik suggests to wear the headphones the site provides to help prevent distraction. This was a FANTASTIC help. You have prepared yourself. No matter how much you study, you will never feel like it is enough. You got this. I passed last October 22 on my first try and have been practicing for the last 7 months. Being an NP is the best job. All this hard work is totally worth it. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

Congratulations:up:

Now you need to add C after your title for board certified.

Yramsco,

Congrats on passing! I bet it feels good :) I take my exam in 3 weeks and I am starting to get a little anxious. How did you study the last few weeks. I know you said you exhausted majority of your resources. But what study source helped you the most to pass?

I am using Leik, Hollier's APEA QBank, and Fitzgerald's book. A few months ago I did the Fitzgerald Live Review. I greatly appreciate any advice/tips!

Thank you!

I like the Leik book (minus the numerous typos) for the last week or 2 of studying. Fitz is too detailed for the final stretch. Leik has a great format for covering the material in a short amount of time. Review question answering strategies in both Leik and Fitz. Then study Leik and make sure you know the information listed in Exam Tips from each chapter. Review guidelines and physical exam normals. Good luck.

The last three days I did Leik's exam tips like everyone suggested. I also took two whole days to review Barkley's book (the workbook that I received during his live review), front to back. I also reviewed JNC 8, COPD staging, and asthma step management :)

I agree! I feel like Fitzgerald was my least favorite review. She goes off on tangents way too much.

I also reviewed all my skin disorders and ALL of the ortho maneuvers!! :)
