wondering how the program is going for anyone that is in it, thanks, applied tonight and just want to make sure I pick the right school.
Hello all,I have just been accepted into Simmons but am unsure because of the tuition. I have seen some very reputible online FNP programs that are significantly cheaper. I was in the process of applying to local universities but Simmons was my first choice because of the reviews, I was almost sure I wasn't going to be admitted but I just applied to give myself a baseline. Basically, I am just trying to justify the tuition rate. I am in debt from my undergrad and would like to add as little to that as possible. Help me out!
Simmons is definitely more expensive- however when researching online, I assumed this is because of their lower (than state schools, etc.) acceptance rate, and the fact that they are a private college. It sounds like for NP programs in particular their technology is above and beyond what many other schools offer. If your main concern is $ there are programs for 20-25k cheaper that have high board pass rates- have you done much research into it tronix304?
My main concern is going to a good school that will prepare me for my duties. However, money is a big concern as well. I will be attending online and won't see to much of the technology I guess. If they help out with placement of a preceptor that would be a big help. I am just pretty much trying to talk myself into accepting the large tuition to attend Simmons rather than a cheaper school.

Simmons offers live web cam classes once per week per class, prerecorded video lectures, discussion boards, and an extensive nursing Library. Thats what the extra tuition includes. U can talk one on one with ur instructor live onlinetoo. Preceptorship placement Team, a dedicated Student support Team and Small classes.
From what I understood from the fin aid officer, there isn't much help in the form of scholarships and grants from Simmons. They gave me some links for opportunities but anyone know of any extra lesser known opportunities?
From what I understand, other colleges don't help much with preceptor placement, I assume Simmons does? What else differs Simmons from other universities/colleges?
Thanks for the help

Simmons offers live online classes, pre Recorded lectures, slide shows, preceptor placement. I think if you go part time the Loans do cover all the Program (that's what another student told me at least) I'm full time so the last term I'll have to do a payment plan or private loan.
There are several threads about Frontier, and many alumni on here, on facebook, etc. Frontier has a facebook page where they will get you connected with alumni and current students if you have specific questions. There are also groups on facebook, linkedin, and other social networking sites that are private to NP and NP students only which have many Frontier alumni and student's actively involved in them.
I looked at frontier, but did not apply. No "bad" reason for not applying just decided on Simmons instead. I liked the live webcam classes, pre-recorded lecture/notes and no discussion posting =) I also was pleased with the fact that Simmons offers clinical placement that I did not have to hunt down myself. Also only one campus immersion weekend, so I wouldn't have to travel to the school more than that. They are expensive but I feel that I'm paying for a superb education. They have a 100% pass rate for the on campus program and both the online and on campus program follows the same program requirements. Drawback is that the online program is still brand new (first cohort started Oct 2013) so they full timers will graduate April 2015 and parttimers Oct 2015 ...I'm in the cohort 3 and dropped down from full time to part time (It was for personal reasons not due to school itself) so i will not graduate until June 2016. Hope that helps.
