Simmons College Sept. 16' Cohort

Published

Hi there! I'm new to allnurses. I was wondering if anyone in the Student Nurse Practitioner forum is either currently enrolled at Simmons or is anyone out there waiting to get in? I applied last week for the September 2016 Cohort, and just received notice yesterday that my application has been sent in for faculty review. Anyone else sitting on pins and needles like me! LOL! Thanks for any feeback *Sorry if this topic has already been covered

Hi everyone!!

I was just notified that I am accepted into the online FNP program pending the completion of the Biology bridge course. I'm taking it in May, so I would be starting the actual program in September '16. Anyone else?? I'm so excited!! =)

Hi everyone, I just applied to Simmons for the online Sep 2016 cohort. My situation is a little unique, I think, because I work in research, and not direct patient care. Although I do have 7 years experience, in the past, of hospital-based patient care.

I have a unique work situation too, but I was accepted! :)

Did anyone have to write an optional statement? I am trying to get everything together to apply to the November 2016 Cohort. My grades were less than stellar in the beginning of college, which resulted in a lower GPA through my associates degree despite major efforts to raise it. It is going to haunt me forever I feel like! Anyways, does anyone have tips or did anyone actually write the optional statement? I would love to get into this program, it sounds fantastic!

I haven't received notification of my acceptance -I'm still waiting for my last letter of recommendation, so I don't know if my optional statement was successful. However, I did submit an optional statement.

I had changed my major, so I left my classes mid-semester to work and save up money for the nursing program. I just explained that in my letter.

I think it's also good to stress how hard you worked later on as well.

Thanks for the advice! I will keep my fingers crossed for you that you get accepted!!

I did write an optional statement about my non-traditional work history. Talk to your advisor about it, mine was incredibly helpful walking me through what to say!

Jessica, do you mind if I ask what you do? It seems we might be in similar circumstances.

Sure! I work in a physician's office but I am in the administrative side and do a lot of marketing, people management, office management stuff. I've never worked anywhere else as a RN outside of when I was a student, so needless to say I was worried my lack of traditional experience would be an issue. But, I work so closely with the Doctor that I have a much clearer picture of what I'm getting into and I'm more geared for that role. That's the perspective I wrote my essay from. :)

Thanks Jessica!

I work in research, sort of medical record review. I work from home, for a company. I did have 7 years of acute care experience.

Thanks again for sharing, this is very helpful! Did you decide to go to another school, instead of Simmons?

I did! I applied to Georgetown, Grand Canyon, and Frontier as well. I was accepted to all of them, which was amazing! I actually ended up deciding to go to Frontier. I just decided it was a better fit for me, and I absolutely love the school! I'm in the first semester and it's perfect for me.

Congratulations Jessica, that's great!
