I didn't read everything, but have you considered being evaluated for a sleep disorder? If you have narcolepsy or something and can show that you've been diagnosed and treated, you may get a second chance.

I also am sensitive to vaccines and have been advised not to get them by my doc. However, it was required by my school (my school threatened expulsion for anyone without the measles vaccine, even though I had doc orders not to get any) and I spent some time at the VA where there's no exceptions. I did get the vaccines one at a time over a period of six months and while my doc wasn't happy, he understood. Fortunately I didn't end up hospitalized, and the risk and sickness that followed was worth it (and ended up being milder than my prior reactions, so that's good!). If you really want to be a nurse, you're really going to want to be protected from the yucky things our patients have. Find a doc who knows your history and have him/her help you do it slowly. Or like others have said, find another sector. Healthcare administration maybe?

I did! I applied to Georgetown, Grand Canyon, and Frontier as well. I was accepted to all of them, which was amazing! I actually ended up deciding to go to Frontier. I just decided it was a better fit for me, and I absolutely love the school! I'm in the first semester and it's perfect for me.

Sure! I work in a physician's office but I am in the administrative side and do a lot of marketing, people management, office management stuff. I've never worked anywhere else as a RN outside of when I was a student, so needless to say I was worried my lack of traditional experience would be an issue. But, I work so closely with the Doctor that I have a much clearer picture of what I'm getting into and I'm more geared for that role. That's the perspective I wrote my essay from. :)

I did write an optional statement about my non-traditional work history. Talk to your advisor about it, mine was incredibly helpful walking me through what to say!

I think the rural areas are north, I got the idea they were on reservations or super tiny towns between Phoenix and Flagstaff.

I emailed them and asked about the preference for rural nursing, mentioning it would be hard to go to rural areas because of my young kids, and they basically said they are geared to rural communities and clinical is far from me. So, I gave up! I'm going to start at Frontier in April! Can't wait!!

Haha no time like the present! I have a 3 year old and a 4 month old plus my job, but I think it seems doable! Well I say that in theory, obviously, as I haven't actually started!!

I can tell you that it seems like there are a lot of people going part time while working full time and they're handling it! I'm not sure how many of them have families though. I have a young family too and a part-time job, and wherever I go I'll do part-time. My BSN was insanely difficult and time consuming though, so I don't want to get in a similar stressed out situation. I don't want to miss anything :)

I actually did that to get my Perkins Loan forgiven for my undergrad, but Perkins loans only require 5 years of work :) I HATE loans, but I also am passionate about being a FNP, so I need to make it work out. I think when it comes down to it, it might be a better choice for me to decline Simmons and attend the local school that is $30K and allows me to pay cash per class as we go. No debt, and FNP in the end...or maybe I'll just go win the lottery. I have to say, once I was accepted I joined the FB group for admitted students and I've been seeing a few things that are making me less enthusiastic about Simmons anyway. Or maybe I'm just finding things because I think it might be a better idea that I'm less enthusiastic about Simmons :)

If it looks like I can't do the move part, should I avoid applying at all? I looked and in my area the only open job site right now is 3 hours away at a prison. My husband say no way Jose. But, there are about 14 approved sites in my area that don't currently have openings. I was thinking they may have openings by the time I'm done, but I don't know. I really feel its probably better for me to not sign up because I don't know about the move, but at the same time it would be nice to have free school...Do you know any specifics about the program? Maybe I should start a new thread about it.
