This morning on the way home from work I saw something that made me go "Why Tan Fox?" and laugh rather hard. Granted, it was probably the post-night shift delirium that made me totally lose it laughing, but I still think it was odd. The car in front of me had a well-made sign in the rear window that said "XY BSN RN" where x y = presumably the driver's initials. I was befuddled as to why someone would do that. Some of my friends have various humorous nursing-related bumper stickers, but nothing as seemingly umm boastful as that. Now I must confess I couldn't see the rest of the car. It could've had company logos on the side or whatever, but my perception was that this was a personal car.
I could see the point of advertising for your services or agency, but that would require that you provide some sort of contact information (website, phone number, etc.). The only other explanation that I could come up with is that this nurse does hospice/home health and is trying to get people to not mess with the car. Still, do people who would mess with the car know that a BSN is a degree for nurses? If I were to do that I'd have a temporary sign (like the pizza places) that said something like "Home health nurse" as appropriate for the nature of my work.
What are your thoughts on the matter? Would you put a similar sign on your car?
P.S. If it's your car I have nothing against you and am just confused as to what the purpose is. And thank you for driving well and fast.
If you have vanity plates that indicate you're a nurse, I don't see why you'd be worried about someone chasing you down in Target to I.D. their rash, ailment, or whatever it is they're suffering from at the moment. I highly doubt that would happen and even if it did, you're not obligated to identify yourself as a nurse. You could always say "I'm sorry but thats not my car. It's my sister/mother/best friend's car." They'd never know.
Firstly, it was Wal-Mart, not Target. If you're gonna criticize, get it right. Secondly, Target it too expensive for my pts! Thirdly, you clearly don't know my pts, because they would chase me down for free medical advise. I am often interrupted by pt's family members wanting to get a free BP check, accucheck, ASA, etc. If you don't live in my community your opinion about what would people here do and not do is irrelevant. And finally, maybe I don't want to be bothered on MY FREE TIME to lie to strangers about what I do for a living to avoid saying, "that's ringworm." Maybe, I just want to run in, grab some milk, and bounce. So lay off! Why do you care about my reasons for not wanting a RN plate???? Get a hobby!!!!!

oh my i would never..i get em lined up asking questions just because i have scrubs on...oh dear if i put on my car that i was a rn...i cant even imagine...
I wouldn't do it but I have to add that my old job had a dress code for CNA's and most of the nurse's wouldn't be caught dead wearing CNA colors and I used to wear them on purpose.

some people came a long way. I'm not one to judge; for each their own (though I'd never do it). There are many who are the first in their families to go to college...who knows? Not my problem )
I have a small (3"x2") window cling that says Nursing Alumni with my school logo in the middle on the driver's side looow windshield. That's about as far as I'd go.

I think all forms of advertising who you are, how many kids you have, what pets you love and especially your political views, are just plain corny. I mean why would I care? I don't even know you. Are you bragging? I especially love the ones that have all identifying info about their kids. For example, you always see the high school bumper sticker next to the one that says "Danielle" on a pair of pompoms. So now any observant creepy perv knows who to follow home to find a cute little teenage girl.

That would be a RESOUNDING h**l's no!!!! It's bad enough, as a single gal, hearing "Oooooooooh nurses are so sexy--can I have a sponge bath?" God knows what sorts of creepy stalkers that sort of thing would encourage heh heh.
