Hello to all!
Has anyone received their letters from Sierra College (Rocklin, CA) yet?
I'll admit I'm not the most patient person in the world, but now that classes are almost over, I'm wondering what to do with myself!
I'm finishing up my last prereq now, (Physio) and will be taking Anthro 2 over the summer.
All I have to do is wait....geez it's tough! Sierra is the only school I applied to for the Fall. Most of the other schools I'm looking at require all the prereqs are completed; I guess I'll be applying to at least 4 schools for the Spring!
Thanks for letting me vent; now back to studying!
Nakgirl84, So sorry. 3-1/2 years is a long time!! Where else have you applied? Are you on any wait lists (Solano or Yuba)?
I limited myself to just the JC's up here in Northern California. My mom who is a workaholic telemetry nurse has lupus and needs my help a lot. If I move away, I'm afraid she's going to get really sick as she has in the past and I won't be able to hop in my car and be at her side. But now this wait is driving me crazy and I've broadened my choices by applying to a couple of schools down in LA, Chaffey college and MSMC. It would work out nice since my dad lives in Chino and I could live rent-free while I go to school.
I feel so stupid for not being on Yuba's list... I hate talking about it. Basically, I met with one of their counselors when I was ready to start applying. She INCORRECTLY told me I had everything to apply except for pharmacology and pathophysiology. She said after I have those classes done, I should meet with her again and get everything in place to get on the list. Well, everytime I tried to get into the classes they were already full. Then one of the times I tried to get into one of those classes, the instructor was like, "Why are you trying to take this class? This is only for students already in the nursing program." I was sooo pi$$ed off. And that was like a year ago. So I just said eff it, by the time I try to get on the list again, if they say it's 3-4 MORE years of waiting, I'd rather try for a private college now.
I've been given SOOOO much bad information and advice from these so-called counselors, it's laughable. I know I am responsible for my own actions but when I am going through a brand new experience such as pre-nursing, I expect these people to know what the he** they're talking about and give me straight information. This being one instance, another one is I was told that I had to have all co-requisites completed BEFORE applying, again SO wrong.
Anyway, I am aggravated with Sierra... I can't believe they STILL haven't told us people who didn't get in a final answer... They even have orientation dates on the website and still no answer for us. It's so great of them to leave us in the dark almost two months later. Very frustrating stuff but congrats to all of the lucky ones!
Nakgirl,
I would suggest you check the nursing program website to get applicant information, rather than the school counselors. Or, check the latest edition of the catalog. I'm sure most of the counselors mean well, but I know many people who have had negative encounters with them, and been given bad information, and even discouragement.
Nakgirl84, so sorry you've gotten such incorrect information. I'd be frustrated too! I'd try and get on Solano's wait list also. They're in Fairfield, so depending where you are and how far you want to commute it's an option. As soon as I get all my transcripts that's what I'm going to do (along with Yuba after I take Intermediate Algebra). It's frustrating to me how the school have different dates to apply by and different requirements. Wish they were all the same. Would make it so much easier on the applicants. And check out Delta College (in Stockton). They go on merit and you might be able to get in there earlier. Good luck!!!!
Hey Nakgirl84 I'm so sorry for your frustration. I know how upset I was @ my friend who applied ONCE to Sierra and got in, and didn't apply to any other schools. Here I am on my 2nd time a round and NOTHING yet. I did want to suggest that you look into some of the LVN programs and consider bridging into an RN program after that. They offer LVN programs @ Kaplan, Unitek and Western with no extra pre reqs (like SCC). Kaplan runs 26k, unitek around 30k and western about 45k. Western DOES have a bridge to RN program though. This would keep you local in Sacramento. ALSO their is a small LVN school in stockton that offers it for 21k called Xavier. They are strictly a nursing school and have a wonderful director from what I've heard. Not bad board pass rates either. Like another person suggested, Delta college in Stockton uses a merrit based system to accept applicants, you may consider applying there in the fall. GOODLUCK. I really hope you get in!!! Maybe I'll see you around sometime?
Hang in there! I just graduated from Sierra & unfortunatly there are NO jobs...anywhere! Hopefully by the time you guys get in & out the market for nurses will have picked up! When I started looking at nursing they were recruting right out of programs...everyone had a job. Now were fighting for anything anywhere!
