I am in the process of applying to a local state college for their BSN program. All of my other grades are good, except for Anatomy. The minimum requirements are a grade of C or better in: Anatomy, Human Development, and Biological/Organic Chemistry II. They also want applicants to have a GPA of 2.5 or better. Mine is a 3.5. Am I worrying too much, or should I try to repeat Anatomy before applying? :stone
C may equal RN when you actually get in nursing school, but a C in A&P won't help you get to the school! My program has a 2.5 gpa minimum, but in reality it has to be over 3.8 to get in.
Exactly my point. Don't be fooled by the minimum requirements. Do your homework on what it really takes to get into the school that you want. :)
The school that I'm applying to also says that their criteria for admittance is a "C" or better in all Math, Science, and English classes and at least a 2.7 grade average. But, everyone who applies knows that the bottom line is that those who are accepted have at least 7 "A"s out of the 12 prerequisites. We have over 800 applicants for only 80 spots each semester, so I think if people don't know the reality of who the program really selects, the applicant will be disappointed. I had one friend who had a degree in Microbiology, but only had 4 "A"s out of the 12 prereqs and she wasn't accepted! You can always apply and then try again if you don't get in the first time. My feeling, though, is that A & P is the foundation for so much of what you will be studying in your Nursing classes, so you may struggle if you didn't really grasp it the first time....
I am not trying to be negative at all because ou seem to be an excellent student. But I am still doing my pre-reqs and from what I hear from all the NUR students ahead of me that A&P is the founation to the nursing classes. I mean they emphasize it to us on a daily basis. One guy even told me that there isn't a day that goes by that he doesn't use his A&P. Just because you got a C doesn't mean you should worry too much but I would stay brushed up on the materials. It is stressed that much where I am. The nursing teachers really don't teach A&P to us once we get into the program they expect us to already know it. Once again I am not being negative ,just remember it's a large part of Nursing. Good Luck, and I wish you much success.
At my school, the nursing program is very competitive and they stress getting A's and B's. It's okay that you got a C in anatomy. You are not making a habit of it and from what I've read are a good student. What is most important is that you ****understand the info. *****:icon_hug: Don't stress about it. As long as you understand the material and are confident in that, you'll be fine.

i got A's in anatomy and phys, but got a D and finally a C in patho. so its not everything. C = continue and you'll learn to love it. Its not just grades, but rather your gpa and what other things your doing. If your working 2 jobs, have some healthcare experience, letters of rec. and have 1 or 2 C's, vs a person who has B's and has no work experience and what not, i'd say you have some advantage. You have the experience and you have other commitments that you can do at the same time and balance it. This is what i hate, because if you have to work, they dont lots of times look at what you do such as work in the process of going from hs-college since they only look at extracurricular activities, sports, clubs, while theres very responsible qualified people who have to work and dont have time to mess around with those worthless, sorry to say, activities, sports, and clubs that are getting you no where.
Well that depends on how competitive it is to get into a program where you live. Realize that your grades are not necessarily a reflection of what kind of nurse you will be, but it sure can effect whether you become one. I live in Texas and I'm retaking A&PI because I got a B. The schools here seperate your science GPA and I already have a B in chemistry (which I'd rather poke out my eyes than retake). I'm also retaking 2 math classes that I have C's in. It stinks but I gotta do what I gotta do. I'll improve my GPA to a 3.6 which makes me feel alot more confident. School isn't easy and it's OKAY if you have put in a little more time and effort. It'll pay off in the long run.:icon_hug:
C= continue at my school, which is what i got in anatomy by the way, here at ABTCC they accept of deny you on getting into nursing school based on points of classes taken and wha you make on the accuplacer test. i made a 350 and have applied to RN and LPN for this fall, the minimum score to get in 345. So WOOOHOOO!
I know at my CC nursing program they also go by a point system instead of highest GPA. I do know that C's in science classes do not get you in. I have all B's and an A and I'm SCARED that I will not get in especially because I'm taking my last two pre-req's. It sucks because you don't want to work your butt off just to be denied.
C = Continue. Whats the difference between a Nurse who made a C and a Nurse who made an A? Nothing, their both Nurses.
Is it not harder to get into grad school with c's?
I know if anyone had c's in pre req. classes where I go, they'd never get into a program that takes 100 out of 900 students..

all depends on the selection statistics and criteria fo your school. If it is GPA based, you need to find out what the average GPA or lowest GPA accepted for the last class and the class before that. See if 3.5 is on the edge or solid. Also you need to know if the science GPA is weighted more heavily. If so, you most likely will wat to repeat the class because a "C" will drag the science GPA down. Call up the nursing office and check it out.
