Controversial Michael Moore Flick 'Sicko' Will Compare U.S. Health Care with Cuba's
Very informative movie. I just watched the movie "SiCKO" and its very eye opening. It shows how our country is so far behind all countries in the healthcare arena that it makes us all look dumb in a sense. Put a shame to us all because we all can be honest with ourself and im sure have seen first hand what happens when u dont have health insurance or a hospital has to boot our a patient because they are there too long. I think we can adapt a new healthcare system like that of the french, canadian, or even cubans. Again, we all pay taxes, why not include it in our taxes like them and allow all americans healthcare. The doctor in france can make 200k a yr, own a 1million dollar house, and live comfortably, so why wouldn't everyone be in agreement. I think thats the reason we all went into healthcare, not for money, but to help people. We are already socialist like they said when it pertains to the postal service, library, and other services. Why wouldn't healthcare be any different. We could all live longer and do more good. Oh also, after watching, im thinking, if i dont have insurance, its probably cheaper to pay the airplane ticket to cuba where they only ask for your name and birthdate than to pay what they charge here in america for anything in healthcare. Might be a huge surge in airline ticket sales. end of rant. good movie though. seen better, but good documentary.

Anyone Bipolar???
i was told i was bipolar. started on prozac. Stopped that after it didn't work real well and lost weight. Since then, never used anything and never really needed to say i was bipolar. I think i have it mostly under control. I dont have manic episodes, but i do get depressed/happy days a bit. I get insomnia and fatigue though. Could be the stress im under too.

What nursing shortage?
that might have changed. i dont know many who went into ER. I know a few in ICU and many went into OR. Though the situation in philly is different because as you know, around here, there are 20-30 nursing school in just the philly suburbs (4 counties). Many of them great, like U of P, Drexel, Temple, Villanova. So many schools at 50-100 students each, we are talking floods of applications and many people. Its a bit harder to get an interview at some of the top hospitals in the area like CHOP or HUP. However many of of those hospitals i heard do hire in the range of 200 people a yr. If you go to the surrounding counties like u said, its difficult too as many hire from within first, limited spots, and few openings. Where im at, u have to have worked there during school. No outside applicants. Guess thats why everyone there has been there forever. Pay is actually better if u work in the suburbs, no city wage tax of like 6%, no travel headache of a gazillion people trying to drive into the city on a 2 lane highway, and less acuity. All the counties are within 40 minutes of the city and there are some very nice areas as well at affordable prices. 2 hour drive to d.c. or nyc. Trains in all 4 counties. Definitely recommend the area for anyone. Also if u work in the city, live in the suburbs work in the city, if thats where u wanna work. Commutes worth the schooling for your kids.

Name on stethoscope...
I searched, dont worry. saw many of the huge threads like this one... https://allnurses.com/forums/f8/title-bsn-badge-149821-10.html and many others about names and titles.. Im a recent grad, BSN and have not taken the boards cuz u gotta wait till paperworks all in. I want to know cuz i want to get my name engraved on my stethoscope lol. What did most people put on there stethoscopes or did they just leave it blank and not put there name. Should i just get that little name plate u connect to it and wait or get it engraved. I know, nothing monumental, but its my graduation present. Dont want anyone taking my new stethoscope. Joe Smoe GN, BSN Joe Smoe GN Joe Smoe RN, BSN Joe Smoe RN Joe Smoe BSN Joe Smoe BSN, RN Joe Smoe confused yes the things we baffle about, names on a stethoscope lol.

Nursing Research Paper
nice paper. good read. i think in doing the apa format, i dont believe you need to put the page number in the parenthesis. Just (author. year) not (author, year, page number). Also im guessing its an informal paper considering the many what if, what are, questions. Makes you think, but i remember someone telling me not to ask questions, but rather answer them.

GN starting rate?
Philly Area is 22-25 plus differentials. Believe it or not you get paid better in the suburbs than in the city. Plus u get killed with city tax on top of low pay.

Drexel, Villanova, U Penn nursing programs..opinions please
if i were you, id go to drexel. Also, consider villanova for graduate education cuz i heard Villanova is number one in graduate education in the US. Dont know the cost of either but im sure its up there rivaling penn.

Drexel, Villanova, U Penn nursing programs..opinions please
dont quote me but from the schools ur picking, id pick drexel if u can get in. I heard there pass rate is like 98% and villanova is like only 89-93%. Also drexel is in the city, more exposure to larger and more critical patients i believe. Also ur at some great hospitals as well. I think villanova is alright, but for the price, theres other places that are better bang for ur buck.

Shy guys
like most said, take a speech class. its required at our school that you take public speaking or professional speaking, so that everyone gets over that fear. you have to do like 5-6 speeches during the semeseter infront of the whole class so you'll get over your fear. Also take an antihistamine which reduces your anxiety but also makes you a bit sleepy.

HELP fo PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
oh man, i do that, haha, i go to barnes and noble and sit and use every care plan book they have and it helps haha. ill go there, pick out 3 books and do my care plans. you can also use their other books as well. patho however, you need to study a lot and remember a lot. Learn all the signs and symptoms cuz our teacher would ask, what is Not a sign and symptom of mitral stenosis. She'd nit pick any small fact on any small page. it was all powerpoints and it was a huge book with six slides a page and 6 facts a slide. so you had a lot to remember. gl tho.
