Should I Wear this to Work?

Published

Hey guys,

I need a little bit of advice. A friend of mine gave me a necklace that I dearly love. I wear it all the time outside of work. My hospital's policy is fine with necklaces being worn to work, so I can wear it at work, however I have not due to it's message. It's a #lovewins necklace. Even though I love it, I would never want to make a patient uncomfortable. But on the other hand, this is a huge cause I believe in. The other nurses wear crosses and such, and I would like to wear what I believe in. Still, I'm not someone who wants to get into problems over a necklace.

If you want to see it, it's very similar to this one, except mine also has a set of initials on it:

Any thoughts are welcome. Thanks!

I never wear jewelry I care about at work because it's too easy to lose. I lost my mothers ring pulling off a soiled glove, and even after going through all the trash and linens I never found it.😥

If you want to wear it and your dress code doesn't prohibit it, wear it. I have a small diamond pendant that I bought myself when I finished graduate school -- I've worn it to work (and pretty much everywhere) every day since 1989 with zero issues. That said, many places of work have dress codes. Ours says the chain has to be 18 inches or less and the pendant must be smaller than a quarter. So I'd check that out first.

Honestly I clicked on this thread because I was assuming it was gonna be some crazy thing that a new grad wanted to wear and I was excited to read the responses.

I like the necklace, I say wear it if you want to...with the understanding that you may be asked some personal questions. If you are okay with opening up yourself to that possiblity, go for it. Its a pretty necklace and you like it.

Yeah -- I thought it was going to be a Betty Boop scrub top or capri scrub pants.

Cute necklace and supports my views. I would wear it everywhere but work.

I draw as little attention to myself as possible. It's about the patient, not you. Not everyone shares this belief and that's fine. It's just what I personally believe.

I honestly didn't even know what it meant until I read the caption... they probably can't even see it well enough to read it or notice the rainbow.

It's up to you but know that if a pushy patient isn't easily redirected by saying let's talk about you, any verbal scrape that occurs will result in your being in the wrong. Admin always has 100 "better" ways you could have handled it come Monday morning.

I wear a necklace given to my by my grandchildren, two heart charms. I wear a long-sleeved t-shirt under my scrubs in the OR, as it's so cold. I simply keep the necklace tucked inside my t-shirt, protected. I know it's there, & their hearts are close to mine that way!
