Should I finish my pre reqs or go to a university?

Well . . . I'm guessing you plan to transfer to a university's nursing program? Knowing so little about your situation, I don't see why you need to transfer now. I would finish prereqs at the community college in the fall and apply to the nursing program for the spring semester.

I decided to stick it out at my communtiy college, finish pre reqs, then transfer to a 4 year school when I start actual nursing classes.

Yea, I planned to attend the nursing program. Its just that people tell me going to a university out of state its better to go because a few of my friends had situations were some of there credits did not transfer. I just wanted to make the best decision. Thank you for your help

Yea, I planned to attend the nursing program. Its just that people tell me going to a university out of state its better to go because a few of my friends had situations were some of there credits did not transfer. I just wanted to make the best decision. Thank you for your help

I took all the courses that were required for the BSN program which also happened to be the same courses that I had to complete for an associate's in pre nursing at my community college. This way when I get to my BSN program, all I am taking for 4 semesters is the 300/400 level clinical classes rather than any gen eds.

It make SO MUCH more sense to do as much at your instate community college that it is worth investigating whether the particular university you want to go to accepts the credits you want to transfer.

If the college and the university are near each other (even though they are in different states), they will almost certainly have a list of the classes they accept and it will be matched to the classes of the other college. It doesn't always match exactly both ways so ask the college you are moving to. You need both because sometimes schools will "give credit" but not as a particular class. The list is probably on-line, the admissions office or advising office should be able to walk you through finding it on their website. It might be a good idea to check it out but then also call the school and ask if that list is up to date.

Some states have a separate website that lists most of the class equivalencies for every college in that state. Some colleges send people there rather than keeping a list on their own website.

I made the mistake of transferring to a university one prerequisite shy of being able to apply for nursing programs! The university had a different registration prioritization and I ended up not being able to finish that prerequisite! I reacted by switching majors to English... Five years later, I am going back to get my ADN...

Plus, community college is way cheaper!

Oh wow that makes a ton of sense. Universities here in California have a few extra courses for the BSN program in comparison to the community college. That is great for you :) . I will continue to look into more schools because I don't want to take so many extra classes to apply to programs then the courses I have to already take.

Really, thanks for the reply I am leaning more towards finishing at my community college, because you are right university has different courses and you made me realize I would be doing the exact same thing. Not completing my courses right before I am able to apply. Did you have to retake pre requisites?
