Ok...this might sound goofy for a question, but here goes...

I will have to purchase my first pair of "white nurse shoes" by June (for school). I was curious as to what types of shoes you all prefer...which are more comfortable for standing, walking, etc.

It seems to me that a lot of them out in stores now are clogs, but they seem like they'd be a pain to wear (literally) when you had to run down the hall (toes slamming up against the shoe, etc).

Comments???

Birkenstocks all the way. They feel much better on my feet than any athletic type shoes ever did. The super birkis can be washed in very hot water and have footbeds that are replaceable. They slide on and off, but have a tiny ledge on the back and I've never accidentally stepped out of them like you can do w/ some clogs. And if you can sit down at any time for 10 minutes, you can slide your feet out easily and stretch out (and air out!) your feets! Only $50-something too. They aren't leather but you can get white. I've had the white leather birks too-- feel just as good, harder to keep clean, twice as much $$.

I have to have the sneeks. I'm just too clumsy to wear anything that doesn't have a back or that has too thick of a sole! Besides, if I need to RUN to a situation that is STAT...I like to have a good pair of sneakers to get me there (even if I trip on the way there)! :chuckle:

Besides I have high arches and no nursing shoe I have ever tried on has given me any support or room to put in support for my arches.

in the past i've spent a small fortune on shoes. what i have found is that if you find a good quality athletic shoe your going to have more comfort for less the cost. they seem to "stand" the test of time. :) no pun intended. :o lilly

Try going to a good running store--NOT an ordinary shoe store. the people ther should be able to fit you nd tell you if you have high arches or whatever and then base your purchase on that. I have real narow feet with high arches and only my Rykas don't hurt. I ran for awhile but now have a horrible bone spur and so wear my orthotics and my rykas (2 pair--NEVER wear your nursing shoes for everyday--too germy!) all the time....Former poster is oh, so right----all God's chillun got 2 feet--take care of them!

Having tried what seems like every concievable type and style of shoe on the market (I am plagued by back troubles...and what nurse isn't...hehehehe:D ) I have found that the most durable and comfy "shoe" out there are Nikes. Good arch support, nice thick comfy sole for shock absorption and laces to keep them tootsies from sneakin out (pardon the pun! lol) But I have to emphasise it is basically personal preference. So try them on, run, jump and walk in them before taking them to the cash register and may your toes live in comfort for the rest of your chosen career! Vive ala feet!

Thanks for all of your comments! I have a feeling that I'm going to have to take a day or two to visit all the shoe stores before I decide which will be the best! :D

I find that if i bye GOOD athletic shoes and wear the inserts that my ortho doc says ive got to i have very little leg/back pain.

Clogs.

I seen other nurses with them on...I didn't like the look of them. I always used my running shoes. (always name brand shoes)

One day the 12 hour nurses were talking about their clogs...how great they were. I bought a pair because I was returning to a 12 hour shift.

Wow I love my clogs. They are my all time favorite shoes. I wear them whenever I can. Even in the dead of winter.

I've got NB and Nike. My NB are the most comfortable anad have been the most durable. They also cost about $40 less than the nike (on sale-at JC Penney). You can also trough them into the washer and let them air dry. DON"T put leather shoes in the dryer. And make sure that they ARE leather and not man-made uppers. Your tooties need to breathe.

New Balance, I will not wear anything else!
