Shoes!!!!!!

Nurses General Nursing

Hello Nurses,

I am an ICU nurse and I work 12 hours shifts. The question is what are the best shoes for working in? I come home many days feeling like my feet and my back are having a tug of war with the rest of my body. I am looking for clogs with wooden heels but don't know who makes them or where to find them. Any suggestions?! My feet and my back will thank me.

howdy,

If you want clogs you can try Birkenstocks, a little expensive but they last forever and are really comfortable (once you break them in) I just bought a pair of Nike crosstrainers, the weird looking ones with no back on them ( just a strap) and they work really well too.

Good luck

i love my rockers. or avia walkers. both are good in ob where not only do ya stand on your feet a lot but you need protection from "stray body fluids"....shoe protectors fit perfectly over em. clogs in ob, to me are a hazard, or i would love to wear 'em . :-)

Birkenstock or Dansko have great clogs for professionals. They are a little expensive, but aren't your feet and comfort worth it. They don't break down as easily as tennis shoes, so you get more for your money!

I have had good luck with Kswiss. They offer lots of arch support.

Has anyone seen those dorky shoes that have a big coil on the heal?

My friend bought them. Now she looks like "Tigger"

try the swen swedish clogs. they have the wooden sole

Just curious why a wooden sole clog? Wouldn't a cushioned sole be more comfortable on hard hospital floors?

I like SAS shoes. I use to have all kinds of trouble with my feet until I started wearing these. They are expensive, but worth every penny.

I like the wooden sole look but it is covered on the bootom and the shoe is comfortable. Plus the hospital I work in has carpeting and the rooms have wooden floors.

Thanks for all the replies.

Truth be told, I wear my SKETHCHERS to work and they are so comfortable. I've tried the fancy nursing shoes and my feet are usually hurting by about the 7th hour. They are fairly inexpensive ($50-60)!

I must echo the praises of the Dansko and Birkenstock clogs!

I have one pair of each. I don't really rotate, I just wear either one according to my mood. The Birkenstocks are great b/c they are rubber. You can clean them without having to worry that they will be ruined. The Danskos are soooo comfortable and they last forever.

I wore the wooden soled / swedish clog for several years when I worked in the OR. I found I developed a callous on the top of my foot over that time from them. They are impossible to keep on your feet if you are running in an emergency/code situation. In fact I fell out of them and twisted my ankle.
