shoes for clinicals?

Published

Hello,

I will be starting block 1 at Chandler Gilbert in the fall. I am starting to purchase supplies and I was wondering if there are any restictions on the type of shoes you can wear to clinicals? I was just thinking of buying a pair of nikes or something similar and I was wondering if there were any restrictions on color or markings?

Thanks!:)

Oh yeah, there are restrictions! They must be solid white and have a back to them. Well, that was the restriction as of 2005.

Yeah, solid white is the rule. I swore up and down that I wouldn't buy those granny-looking Dansko shoes but after two blocks of Sketcher pain I caved! I say go with the Danskos.

thanks for info. I really appreciate it. So it is worth it to buy Danskos now. I was thinking of just getting some walking shoes. Have Danskos really made a difference for you? How long are your clinicals? Two 8 hour? Have you heard of any changes they may implement? Like changing clinical to one 12hr?

During clinicals I just wear my white Reebok walkers. You're really not on the floor that long during 8 hour clinicals....Mervyns has some on sale right now.......On the other hand, when I work a 12 hour shift, I can't survive without my Danskos........Block 1 is such an expensive Block, if you could do without the 100.00+ shoes I'd say go for it and put the money towards a good stethoscope instead.....

I like New Balance to match the Navy Blue uniform.

LOVE my Dansko's but a word of warning about them. If you can afford it, you might as well get some good shoes now but take time to wear them in. WEar them around the house for a couple days first, it takes your feet/legs a while to get used to them. Once you're used to them you'll wonder why you didn't get them sooner.

Amen. I look like a 70s disco star in my granny white Danskos - but they are simply the best. I have lower back problems and the support they provide eliminate most back pain. I wouldn't wear anything else for clinicals/work.

i have some white and silver nike shox.. they are not completely white.. so i bet they wont let me... i cannot find plain white nike shox.. any suggestions??? lol are we allowed to wear medical croc clog shoes? anyone know if they schools let you wear those??? Thanks guys!!

peesh-

I just found the official dress code document and it says the following regarding shoes:

- Uniform style shoes and laces must be clean and white with low heels. No clogs or sandals.

I'm at PC and as the blocks go along, the less concerned the instructors are about the uniform. Last block (3) she let one gal wear white Crocs because the instructor wore them exclusively and loved 'em. I've been wearing white New Balance but they have a bit of lavender in them and no one has said anything. They are sticklers though about them having a back - no clogs. I agree with Mattsmom about block 1 being expensive. It gets better as the blocks go along. Check out DSW's clearance rack...you might get lucky and find a pair of shoes that meet your expectations at a reasonable price. Later as you get into school, you will find what works for you.

They had a big uniform "inspection" at Gateway prior to Block I clinicals. But what people wore after that varied in terms of shoes - half the people switched to Crocs with no problem. But be warned - any psycho instructor can write you up. If you have some shoes that are white with some lavendar, just bring 'em in to your instructor the first few weeks and get a verbal approval. That is all you need...so long as it is just a splash of a color, it should be no big deal.
