Hey guys! I FINALLY got a real live nursing job. Now, let me tell you how awesome God is. Those who remember my story, I have wanted to be an oncology nurse. I graduated last May but was in a car wreck that broke most long bones I possess. I was able to finally take boards Feb.12 and passed(first try) and on March6th I got my license. I had surgery on a non-union humerus March5th. Well the arm isn't healed 100% but my doc said I can work. New grads start out here at about $16/hr. I applied at a hospital here asking for $18/hr. I got oncology, $18/hr plus $5/hr for noc shift and $3.50 qowkend on top of that. I start on Monday. I just bought my scrubs today and my white Dansko's (those were 20% off!) I've been dreaming about! Man! I wanted to holla in the uniform shop! So, after this long road I am finally in the mix. I am SO excited and terrified at the same time. But I know God won't drop me now. He's carried me (and my broken up husband) this far. Smooches!!!!!!!
I appreciate all the words of encouragement. This has been such a long road. Not to worry....nothing and no one can bring me down, bust my bubble, or change my mind as far as this career goes. I have worked side by side with some incredible nurses, CNA's, etc. (and some not so spectacular ones) for 16 years. This was the next step for me. I know what I'm in for. Nursing school was too big an accomplishment for me to have anyone bad mouth it.
So don't worry, I'm prepared for those negative comments like "are you crazy?" and "is it too late to talk you out of this?" Nurses have too many options available to them to knock the profession.
I encourage anyone wanting to do it, doing it, and seeking to further their nursing career. My BSN is the next hurdle after I've been working about a year or after I have a baby(next on the agenda) whichever comes first.
Again much love and thanks to all of you! You'll see me more around this place too!
