SFSU 2011 applicants

Published

Application period is about to start for everybody. I wanted to open a new thread for those who are applying to SFSU, to share information, give support to others and to see how fierce the competition is going to be this academic year.

I called the school of nursing today and the person who answered (I'm assuming she's the receptionist) said it could be another week or two for emails notifying waitlisters

though May 9th was the initial deadline for those accepted to submit a letter of intent, the CSUS nursing dept is following up this week with accepted applicants that they have not yet heard back from to get a decision. the lady in the dept said that a final decision must be submitted to the nursing dept by May 16 before they start to give spots away to those on the waiting list. So definitely after the 16th maybe those waitlisted can expect to hear back from the nursing dept..so fyi.

disregard above msg - wrong post! :)

I am so anxious after all this waiting to know what's going on with the waitlist. Do you guys know if we just wait and wait until our "name is called" ? or do we get some sort of updates like, " 10 have been moved from the waitlist to admittance" or "only so many people below you accepted the wait list offer." so now you are number such and such... ? haha all these months and months of waiting have got me on the edge of my seat!

I don't think it does bc I'm taking Stat right now and they're still letting me in for the Fall Canada-SFSU program. I think it's really up to the committee and how they decide is anybody's guess. Then again, Stat isn't one of the core nursing classes and I'm not sure whether an in-progress core class might have some weight in the decision. Just guessing here bc not sure what class you had in-progress when you applied.

Actually, I am pretty sure that the Canada SFSU program is only a fall start. They don't start anyone in the spring and they all do the summer semester (unlike the traditional SFSU program.) At the on-campus program orientation they told us that normally everyone with in-progress coursework (at the time of application - not acceptance) will be placed in the Spring. I had a chem class in progress and I was placed in the spring 2012 also. I hope this helps

FYI... My stats were 4.0 gpa in prereqs, 3.78 gpa in all units, 2 out of three supplemental criteria (medical experience & 2nd language), and TEAS V results of 92.7%.

Hi everyone,

I got accepted into SFSU for Spring 2012 and Sac State for Fall 2011. I choose SFSU since it's my 1st choice...

By the way, i'd love to hear some feedback from my future classmates. The challenge's only just begun!

Hello! I am also going to start Spring 2012. I am very excited! I was a little thrown off by the new requirement of having to be a SFSU student for the fall though. I am going to go ahead and use the time to do 2 or 3 of the Segment III GE's we have to complete before graduation. What about you?

See you in the halls!

P.S. Here's the link to the new thread I started for our class... https://allnurses.com/ca-nursing-programs/san-francisco-state-571095.html

Hi, Guys! I have started a new thread for all of the SFSU BSN students who will be starting in Spring of 2012. I would love to hear from you. Here's the link...

Just a heads up for those of you on the wait list, I just finished my first year at SFSU in the BSN program and one of my classmates was on the wait list for Fall 2010 and she found out that she got a spot on July 29th the day after we had our orientation! My point is don't give up hope if you don't hear back soon, it could still happen!

Solidus Snake, I am pulling for you big time. I remember seeing your posts last year. I will especially keep my fingers crossed for you, I can tell how much you want it. Good luck to everyone else as well!

Hi! Congrats on finishing your first year! I am starting next spring. Any recommendations? How do you like the program, the teachers, and your hospital placements? Thanks! :)

:crying2::crying2: Thank you so much Reebles for your support! I remember you too and I know it was hard and it really isn't getting easier! I want to thank ALL of you here, Reebles, Bombom, Candicen83, sarahruby, everyone else, and the ALLNURSES online community for the strong support that you give. :crying2:. Seeing all of these comments really make me cry from the inside and I feel as if I want to spill my heart out, knowing that there are those out there who really care!:heartbeat

It is about time that I update you with some news. First of all, I would like to congratulate Bombom and Sararuby for getting off of the wait list and accepted for SFSU! Great job you two! I hope to join you and get out of the wait list as soon as possible too!

As I mentioned in an earlier reply, I was wait listed number 18... after weeks of waiting, I decided to send an email to the school to see my status after pressure from my friends. I received an email saying that I am now number 4.

Reebles, I really want in badly. I've sacrificed so much in me to get myself where I am at right now. I've friends who got accepted for Fall 2011 and a friend who was wait listed then got called up for Fall as well, and I would REALLY love to join them as we can all help each other out. I've worked hard on my grades for a good GPA, tried my best on the TEAS as the first requirement for this year's process, and gave up much of my time to volunteer and work with those who are underserved and underrepresented in our community. I even struggled hard to re-learn my mother's and grandmother's diminishing native language and on top of that, polished my Spanish conversational skills with locals and new immigrants who had limited English ability. I even gave time out for myself from my schooling and studies to travel half-way across the world from half a year to a year just to discover the fact that I want to be a nurse: I want to go back and help minority communities and communities with limited health care access as well as indigenous people who lack healthcare, to be that humanitarian and help promote and raise awareness, because I want to give back to my community from all the support that they gave to me.

I decided too, that if I don't get accepted this time around, I'm going to leave my path from nursing. I wouldn't feel as if nursing is intended for me then.

I will update everyone else once I receive any news, until then I will keep dreaming and hoping that I may be united with those in the program and with my friends. I plan to send an email by the end of this month too.

...and Reebles, I wish you the best of luck out there. The journey started already for you, and it will only get harder, but I know you can finish strong. Please give my regards to those in your class as well from before!

Once again everyone, thank you so so much for your kind support:redbeathe

They will call you, from what I know. What is your wait list number? did you get called? I moved from #18 originally now to #4, and I'm still waiting and hoping! I won't give up yet, even if the wait is very torturous! I was told by the admissions when I went to their office that if you want to find out your status, you should send them an email. Good luck and I wish you the best!
