Application period is about to start for everybody. I wanted to open a new thread for those who are applying to SFSU, to share information, give support to others and to see how fierce the competition is going to be this academic year.
wow congratsmay i ask what number u were on the waiting list and your stats??
&how long did u have to wait until they contacted u that you were off the waiting list?
THANKS
I was number 18/115 on the wai list at first, then after a few weeks, I moved to number 4. By orientation week, I emailed them and asked what my status was when they accepted me. I pretty much had to wait for a long time, unsure how long though but I got notice in mid-to-late March, got contacted in late May, then again in late July... but it is TOTALLY worth it.
My stats? I had 3.9 prereq GPA, 3.8 overall college GPA, 6/3 supplemental, 79.2% TEAS V.
Good luck to all that apply. gotta finish a care plan now...
For Fall 2012, only 20 people ended up continuing in the program, so in the Spring 2012 cohort, 60 were accepted. They accepted up to #30 on the wait list (maybe b/c not all of them accepted the offer.) That stats for the people accepted vary. Many of them worked as cna's or in clinical settings, some for a long time, some only certified and never worked. Most people I have talked to got average grading from the TEAS test, and some amount of cultural or volunteer experience. There are a few people who did not get all A's, maybe people with 3.0 grade averages, and the majority of students accepted had at least 3.8's or higher. I believe that everyone has a chance. You would think that everyone would have 1,000 hours of volunteer experience, be bilingual/trilingual, have a 4.0 and 100% on the TEAS, but that is not true.
SF State accepts nursing student typically with these stats in order of priority:
1. Good Grades in pre-reqs
2. TEAS test ( just average requirement, but higher students accepted 1st)
3. Volunteer/work experience (doesn't necessarily need to be medically related)
4. second and third languages.
I would highly, highly recommend attending the meetings to talk about applications. I learned several things at one meeting that I think helped me get in. (the correct TEAS version, how to submit volunteer work proof correctly, etc) I also called alot to ask questions, and emailed often to check what my status was.

Yea, wanna know the funny part? I got accepted on the week of orientation...
I think I found out my result in mid-March if I got accepted or not or wait listed. I was pretty sad because I applied to 5 schools: 4 ADNs that I never made into and 1 BSN (SFSU) that wait listed me. I was so lucky to get into SFSU.
