SFSU 2011 applicants

Published

Application period is about to start for everybody. I wanted to open a new thread for those who are applying to SFSU, to share information, give support to others and to see how fierce the competition is going to be this academic year.

below 3.0? That doesn't sound fair.

I am number 21 on the wait list. I have a 3.5 pre req GPA and a 3.7 overall GPA. I had 2 letters of verification from hospital volunteering and one from multi cultural experience. I scored a 79 on the TEAS V. I don't see how they would of accepted someone who had below a 3.0....that doesn't seem right. My twin sister got accepted for spring 2012 her GPA was the same as mine, but she scored an 81 on the TEAS V and had one more letter than me for going to Jamaica with our youth group which counted as multi cultural experience.

Hey y'all. I'm number four, and they said they'd notify us from may 1st 2011 to jan 2012 so i hope it's sooner and not later.

Sarahruby, what are your stats if I may ask?

Last year, there were about 25 waitlist spots, from what I've read which is definitely better than 100+! And in the past years, they've accepted about 5-22 people from the waitlist, so it totally depends on the pool each year. Also, I don't think the school of nursing will tell us our numbers, as last year's waitlisters weren't told theirs.

Here were my stats if any of you want to know. 3.8 prereq GPA, 3.8 total GPA, 79.3% TEAS -Advanced standing, 4 letters of recommendations, a CPR certification, and I speak 4 languages. SFSU was my first choice, but now I don't know if I want to be a nurse anymore. Good luck with everyone else and congrats to those who got in! ;)

Keep your chin up. I am crossing my fingers for you, Solidus_Snake. I think my GPA may have been slightly below yours but I studied really hard for my TEAS and managed to get a 92.7%. I also speak 3 languages. I think my TEAS and letter of recommendation really made a big difference for me. I hope you do get into SF State because I've seen many of your posts, and there's something real sincere that comes across from you. You'll get into a program--I know it!

I just got an email and I am accepted for Spring 2012. Do any of you know how the school of nursing decide who will start in Fall or Spring? I have a class still pending (quarter system , I just finished the class last week) Could it be it?

I don't think it does bc I'm taking Stat right now and they're still letting me in for the Fall Canada-SFSU program. I think it's really up to the committee and how they decide is anybody's guess. Then again, Stat isn't one of the core nursing classes and I'm not sure whether an in-progress core class might have some weight in the decision. Just guessing here bc not sure what class you had in-progress when you applied.

It seems so many people were placed into wait list...I was on the wait list too :sniff:, waiting again...:crying2: I want to know: when is the deadline for the accepted applicants to reply the offer?

The acceptance letter said we had 7 days to respond. However, i got two similar letters dated 2 days apart. The 2nd letter was dated Mar. 23rd on mine. Each letter asked to send my response to a different contact--it was a little weird so without taking any chances, I sent my response to both contacts. More confusing, was that in one of the 2 response forms, it mentioned that all responses need to be received by Apr. 23, 2011. My guess is final announcements won't be available until late April to early May.

Thanks for the encouragement Candicen83, I really needed it after feeling so down. People told me about other alternatives like physician's assist and such, but I don't want to be those. I really want to be a nurse. I took about 1/5-1 year off my schooling just to see this world and came back knowing that I really want to be a nurse for a good purpose; humanitarian, to work with underrepresented/indigenous/minority populations and those with no medical access. I have my whole heart on being a nurse, and not anything else medically related. Sigh, I really do hope to get into SFSU's program. Somehow I think this year was somewhat unfair and really disappointing to me. But I'm still hoping and waiting...

Wow, are you my long lost twin??? That's exactly what I'd like to do with my nursing skills too--participate in humanitarian projects like Operation Smile. You would be a credit to the health care community and because your heart is in the right place, the Universe will set things in motion for you. Your diligence is testimony to your dedication to your dream of serving humanity. I'm sure everyone around you can sense in some way that this is your destiny, so don't ever lose faith. Keep envisioning yourself already there and it will happen :heartbeat

After calling to inquire about my admission decision today via phone, I received an email 1 hr later saying I was not admitted to SFSU :crying2: Maybe it was something I said? Admissions must have been crazy competitive this year! My rejection email said that students were admitted to SFSU within a GPA range of 3.7 and 4.0. Guess SFSU weighs paid healthcare experience (I only submitted hospital volunteer experience - 2345 hrs) and multilingualism (I am only bilingual) equal to GPA (I had 4.0 prereq & 4.0 overall GPA) and test scores (my score was TEAS 89.6 - I would have taken it a 2nd time but I just could not spare the extra cash believe it or not - the recession has been tough on me!). Hopefully I get into the CSULB BSN program now (I interviewed 2 wks ago & should hear back next week) Congrats to all accepted and waitlisted which are MAJOR accomplishments for the SFSU BSN program. Good luck to all!

I thought SFState didn't require a letter of recommendation. I don't know my stats by heart have a 3.74 GPA and a pre-req GPA higher than that, TEAS V of 82, and the language component, volunteer experience. I was frustrated because I received my CNA license after the deadline so that wasn't included I don't think. Good luck to everyone, I know May 1st will be here before we know it!

Hey I'm really confused as to how SFSU picks their students for the year now. I'm waitlisted at rank 2 and I don't have better stats than yours. (Yours are amazing by the way). I really don't understand how they didn't AT LEAST have you on waitlist? I'm really wondering why they didn't choose you
