SFSU 2011 applicants

Published

Application period is about to start for everybody. I wanted to open a new thread for those who are applying to SFSU, to share information, give support to others and to see how fierce the competition is going to be this academic year.

Thank you! I did call several times, and sent an email. I finally got a reply. I started as #23, and now I am #9. I'll be attending this fall, and will stay on the waitlist until it's over. I feel like I have a 50/50 chance at this point :). I worked harder than i ever have in my life to get here too! Hoping for the best! Good luck to you too... being number 4 seems like great chances!

A question for wait-listers attending SFSU this fall...

Does anyone know if we need to be attending full time (12 units), or if part time (6 units) will still keep us officially on the waitlist too.

All I read on the Waitlist FAQ's sent out, was that we need to be SFSU students under an alternate major, but didn't see any further specification.

Thanks!!

I'm an SFSU student. I don't think it matters how many units you register for the fall semester, as long as you're attending SFSU to be on the wait list.

As for me, I don't think I'll be taking any classes for the fall semester. I'm pretty much done with all of my GE and graduation requirements. I just need the nursing core classes. Also, once you've attended at least one semester at SFSU, you can skip the next semester without taking any classes and still maintain student status for the university. However, for the following semester, you must take classes in order to keep that status. So for example, since I finished classes in the Spring 2011 semester, I don't need to take any class for the Fall 2011 and still be a student at SFSU, but I need to take classes for the spring 2012 semester if I want to keep my student status. They let you do that after you've taken classes at least every other semester.

I'm still debating if I should take some classes though but still not sure.

Hope this helped!

The only thing that the nursing department requires is that we be SFSU students. I checked, and for a transfer student this can be as little as 1 unit and as long as it is taken through the regular college (not through college of extended learning) it can even be an online class. If you're a transfer student it would be the best to find a GE you are missing or take your Segment III classes. If you go to your DARS report on the SFSU website you will be able to see what classes you are missing for graduation with the exception of your nursing core courses of course.

I hope this helps!

guys, I've been thinking, since I'm so close on the wait list, what if I go to orientation and see if there are no-shows? maybe I can take their spot?

They probably won't let you in since you won't be on the list, it would however show them how much you want it, but I don't know if they had no shows that they would boot them out right that second and move you up, you know?

Solidus,

I thought I had a PM from you when I was on vacation and was going to reply now but I cannot find it. Can you resend it please?

Thanks!

Hi! Congrats on finishing your first year! I am starting next spring. Any recommendations? How do you like the program, the teachers, and your hospital placements? Thanks! :)

Recommendations....first off spend the money and buy some good shoes. The program I like, most of the teachers are amazing, especially ---- (med-surg), -------'s study guides for pharm can be a lot of work. I have been at CPMC and St. Francis and both were great experiences. Second semester at St. Francis is when we got to rotate into the burn unit, ED, OR, GI, and ICu, we learned alot doing that. Any more questions, feel free to ask!

Anyone get called off the waitlist recently?

Hey EME.LEW

sigh, not yet. not even a sign. lately I've been having these ideas about giving up and going on an alternate path, but NO. I will still hang on! :D how's it going on your side? I think after orientation we'll get notified or called I hope! JUST SO CLOSE! Also, I've decided to take classes at SFSU next semester too like you!

By the way, I did asked them about the orientation thing if I can go as a wait listed person. They told me that I can't attend, although if I get called up, they'll send an orientation packet that basically tells you what to do and what orientation was all about. They also have the idea now that we're still VERY much interested with the program since I fell as if I've bothered them enough through e-mail.

Well, let's hope for the best!

hahaha... yeah i feel the same. but i am still going to attend sf this fall, it would be a dream come true to make it! i check my sf state email e'rrrry day! i'm also planning on applying to a few other colleges while i wait, b/c i really want to get on the path and get going , but sf state ofcourse is my dream.

hang in there!

better to wait, than give up and wonder what might have happened. we have til january :)

Specializes in interested in specializing in Peds or OR.

Hey you guys hang in there! Today, I got an email from SFSU about all the Health Requirements and background checks. They're all due by Aug. 10th with "no exceptions!" So that's another chance people on the waitlist have of getting in (if a few people fail to complete the requirements on time) hehe. Good Luck to you guys, especially you Solidus =)
