Hi! I wanted to start a new thread for all of the SFSU BSN nursing program students who will be starting in the Spring of 2012! I can't wait to meet all of you and congrats on all of our hard work, right?... WE MADE IT!

Hello!

I'm excited, I think I finally decided on SFState over CSUEB...I've signed up for orientation for the university this summer but we won't have a nursing one until fall since we start in spring right?

Hi, Sarahruby.

I think you're right. I was told that our orientation would be sometime in October and that we would hear more in June. What classes are you going to be taking this fall? I was surprised by the new requirement for needing to be registered in the fall even though we don't start until Spring. I am going to try to finish my Segment III GE's.

That's a great question! I'm really not sure, when I looked at my 'DARS' report on MYSFSU it looked like I have so much to do before graduation! I think I'm going to go see a counselor.

Seeing a counselor is a good idea. Are you transferring from a community college. If so check out CSUmentor.com. It compiles a lot of the same info you can get from a counselor and really helped me out. Take care!

hi guys! just wondering if any of you guys have decided on a segment 3 cluster yet? i've looked online at the ones i'm really interested in, but when i checked the class selection online a lot of the classes weren't available. i really want to choose a cluster where i can finish all 9 units in one semester...

I haven't decided yet because I'm going to choose mine based on availability on August 1st (my reg. date). But the good thing is that only two have to be in one cluster. The other one can be from the same cluster or any other. So all you need to do is find two Seg III's that are available in your chosen cluster and then the other one is kind of a freebie. I hope that helps!

Hey Everyone!

I got accepted to the Fall 2011 BSN program at SFSU, but there doesn't seem to be anyone on this forum who was as well. So, feeling a bit lonely, I decided to drop in here and say hi =). Most likely we'd probably be running into each other at school or in clinicals at some point or another anyways lol.

I'm a continuing SFSU student and I saw some of you have questions about segment III clusters/classes. Generally, the Human Sexuality cluster is known to be the easiest and most interesting of the choices. However, i DO NOT recommend taking all 3 classes at 1 time because each class requires at least 1 10 research paper amongst other assignments. This paper rule is standard for all segment III classes no matter which cluster you're in. I'd also steer clear of any classes that have "GWAR" at the end of the title. These are heavy writing classes which are meant to subsidize the JEPET (Junior level writing proficiency test). As nursing students we already have a GWAR class built into our program so save yourself some work and take something else lol.

Anyhoo...sorry for the long post, if you guys have any questions feel free to ask. And, congratulations to everyone =)!

The last class isn't exactly a freebie persay...you can just chose your last class from any other segment III cluster, but you still have to take a total of 3. :)

Sorry... that's what I meant. I just wanted to make it clear to the other student that she doesn't need three classes from the same cluster. But thanks for the clarification. :)

Wow....thank you Angelxeternity for this very helpful information. Since we don't start until Spring 2012 do you think it would be too much if we take all 3 Segment III classes this Fall? For Finacial Aid purpose I have to take 12 units so I was planning on taking all 3 plus something else.

you're welcome bzepeda73:). Personally, I don't recommend taking all 3 segment III classes at the same time because each of those classes will require at least a 10 page paper in addition to other writing assignments. Each class will average about 3 essays each including the 10 pg one...an easier teach might split it up into like a few 3-5 page papers. Unless you really like writing, I advise against taking all 3. However, taking 2 at the same time is manageable.

To make 12 units for financial aid you can look at your DARS report on MYSFSU to see if you're missing any other GE's besides segment III. Sometimes not all of your classes transfer over and you might need something else. You can also take a "just for fun" class like piano, dance, spots, etc. You really don't want to stress yourself out too much before the program starts. Hope this helps =)
