I had an interview and was made a senior nurse yesterday
not quite sure what I have let myself in for but plan for it to be a mainly clinical senior nurse, I didn't want to be taken off the wards so have guarenteed clinical time.
Hoping I can make a difference and help improve things for the wards but get the feeling that may be a huge challenge
Wish me luck :monkeydance:

Congrats XB9S. Will you buy me a Hog with the extra millions you will be earning?

Maybe they will let me know that later on

Thankyou, that is really good advice and somthing that I need to keep reminding myself. I do have a tendency to get absorbed and work long hours to get stuff done which is not good for me so I will start as I mean to go on

Gratulations and good luck.
Since when is a nurse a senior nurse? I am a German nurse and moved to UK 2 weeks ago so I am not familiar with all these things. Is an RN1 equivalent to Band 5?

Band 5 is what all qualified nurses should be on regardless on qualification ie paeds, mental health and general. I would say senior nurse would be somewhere high grade 6 to 7 but many trusts have adapted the banding to themselves. I was a senior E grade when I worked in the hospital and have seen many E grades post that with the banding they was banded 5. People thought when the grading was fetched out in 1988 was bad this time out has been horrible. This is my opinion
A band 5 is the basic pay grade for nurses, this can range from newly qualified to expereinced nurses. A band 6 would be the equivilent of a deputy ward manager / specialist nurse / nurse practitioner. Band 7 is Ward Manager, some specialist nurses and nurse practitioners. Band 8 is usually Consultant nurse, some specialist nurse managers and Senior Nurses / Modern Matrons
So in answer to your question as a Senior Nurse I have responsibility for 8 Surgical wards, 2 clinics, specialist nurse and nurse practitioner services and a consultant nurse which are based over 2 different hospital sites and covers some areas of community nursing as well.
Hope this answers your questions
