Nursing Students NCLEX

just needed to vent! I can't seem to pass this nclex! First time, didn't study much, traveled, partied, got 201 questions w/ all near passing...understandable why I failed! Second time, attended a review, did questions every other night, got 265 questions w/ couple above passing and the rest near passing...will the 3rd time be a charm?!?!?! I have my bachelors in psy and also got my BSN, so I never had problems w/ school/grades, was in honors & dean's list...so why now when I have to take the biggest test ever, I struggle!?!?! My parents are the greatest and have given me everything I could ask for except thr RN behind my name!!! That's something I truly want and thats something I will work hard for to obtain! Being 25, I need to start my life...on my own...career and family...all I need is that RN behind my name! In due time, I will pass this exam!!! I commend all of you who have chosen this career and esp. passing the nclex...hopefully I will join you all as RN's!

Thanks for listening...Have a wonderful Easter :)

so are you getting your money back from kaplan?

No I don't think so, I am still using their on-line study tools. There are some that I didn't use the first time around, so this time I am making sure that I am utilizing everything that they have to offer. I hope that makes a difference in my success.

hi, i am so glad to have found this web site, i have been feeling like dog doo. I just took the NCLEX RN for the second time and felt like i passed. this time all obstacles were out of the way and i studied and practiced. i bought the kaplan book and thought it was helpful until i just found out i failed the test again on march 30th. i am so devastated.

I need help with the ...which pt would you see first thing...i thought i got that but as time passes from being out of school i feel like i get worse??

i just wanted to say i know how you feel it sucks. there is hope.

I have been studying from the Kaplan book on strategies and took their test and practiced and did well. I have the Saunders book, so you recommend just going over the cd questions, over and over until I excel? I have heard the same review from my honor student friend about the Saunder's book. I started reviewing concepts, lab values etc. Do you think it would be more beneficial for me to just keep answering questions?

thanks for any help!!

They are giving you the areas but not the paticular questions to look at. This is a big difference. Again, I will ask what are you using as your study tools? All of my students that have used the Saunders book, as well as my classes, have passed the first time.

Saunders is by far my favorite review book. Nothing else comes close

i have but which course to take??

there is are several courses out there.

d

Have you thought of taking one of those review courses? Not just buying the study guides, but actually having a tutor prepare you for taking the test? My cousin, who is very bright but has trouble on standardized tests, invested in one of those and passed the first time. Might be worth a try.

all third time test takers you are not alone; i am on my third attempt and as usual the 2 previous were near passing standard. there are times i use to feel dumb but you know what, i learn't to trust in God for this one. Don't feel incapable or you will walk in with lots of fear and again decrease you chances of passing. chin up; you are not alone. :) i am pulling outall the stops. try to top 100 questions per day, trying to get the hang of how to answer questions. never give up, never give up, never give up......!!!!!

we WILL pass!!! i took the kaplan course, went to the classes, did the online review and failed at 265 questions...this time around taking the ncsbn course online and studying from the saunders book...having no life and just studying all the time...i got my money back from kaplan and had to give them back my cd & book...the saunders book is much better than the kaplan course book that came w/ the review, although their cd trainer was beneficial...i think the ncsbn course is good and not as boring as the kaplan online review content...hopefully this time around it will work...how r u studying this time around?

Saunders CD, Kaplan and spending lots of time answering questions on the computer. Also i joined a NCLEX prep. group whic provides more avenues for study and members are there to clarify questions and answers; lastly, since i have been inactive i am pursuing a refresher course to update myself.sometimes i wonder if i will not get crazy but you got to do what you got to do.

Wendy-

Your situation is the same for me I am so nervous to take it again. How many questions did u get the first time you took the exam??I had all 265 with near passing in all the categories. I plan to take it again April 15th but I am so incredibly nervous. I read on this site all the time, but it is nice to talk to people that are in a similar situation. Good luck

I also got ALL 265 questions & near passing in every category! I'm hoping this upcoming time I make it!

hi pie123,

when are you planning to take the exam?

i'm sorry about the news.

after taking the nclex i feel there's not right way to exactly study for the nclex. because the things that they ask me on the exam - a few of them i had never heard of it.

i highly suggested practice kaplan questions either from the qbank or kaplan trainer. i feel that the nclex and kaplan questions are around the same level of difficulty. mostly kaplan offers priority question which i think is great and had be prepared for priority question for the nlcex.

next- if you have difficulty in one area - go over it. i love saunders as my review book that i read. however, peds and ob had too many informations so i went back to my nursing notes and went over it.

the drugs - if any of you have the kaplan course book - they have a chapter for drugs in classification. always study drugs in classification. i didn't spend too many time and effort studying drugs. but there are some drugs that we must know and nclex favorite. my friend picked 20 drugs from the kaplan list.

i thought i was going to fail my nclex too the long waiting days for my results were awful. there i sat thinking if i fail maybe i'm not ready to be a nurse to take care of patients.

have faith in yourself!!! because i know you guys can pull through it.

we all made it through nursing school!!! :balloons:

I wish the very best luck to everybody here! I will write my second trial on 19th this month. First time, I really didn't study for it because I thought it would be as same as Canadian RN exam! Then, this time I am really focus on reviewing the content from the Hurst online course and practicing questions from Saunders CD. The good thing about the Hurst review course is that Marlene review the content with layman's terms and gives you the critical thinking way. This way, you don't just memorize all the content. Saunders has good explanation for choosing the right answer and test-taking strategies. Still, I am very nervous....but I believe myself I can do it..and so to all of you
