second semester thread :-)

Published

Who all is going into their second semester? We just started this week, one class down and one lab down. They laid out our group project and our research project on day one. I am glad to kind of already be able to plan for those. We are hitting OB and Newborn hard right now, with med surg to come later. We have a dosage calc exam during our next lab and a skills review during the lab after that. I am so excited to not feel like a newbie anymore!!

Hope everyone enjoyed a well needed break and is as excited as I am to be going at it again :-)

Last semester my main concern was the dosage test and passing meds. This semester all the new expectations make the dosage test look easy. There's a long list of new things to learn. It's hard to believe we've come so far in a short time. It will very interesting to see how we've grown by thus summer. What are your fears and goals for this semester? What are you most excited about?

I am approaching my third week of second semester. It's much more intense, time-consuming, and demanding than first semester, but I still love it.

Did you guys have your Pharmacology classes in the first semester? How can they give a drug calculation test the first day if you havent even started the material yet? I'm confused!

We did Pharm in first semester. I started very mad. My school messed up my clinical assignment. It's all OK now but first two weeks was full of frustration. Cannot wait for summer I'm gonna sit for LPN license

We don't have dosage in class its self taught.

We took pharmacology first semester. The dosage test was a few weeks in. However we have to take one in every class so this semester we had one in basic and one in ob, both in week 2

We did pharm first semester too, and had a dosage test week 3 in first semester. This semester we have another dosage test the first day of clinical (which for me is tomorrow, EEK!) then IV dosage test the second week of lab, another EEK!!

My fear is actually failing a test. I know that seems weird but last semester I did well on most of them and I am afraid this semester that I wont perform as well. My goal is to become better at writing careplans, I felt that I didn't do as well as I would have liked last semester.

How about you studentnurseCT, what are your goals and fears?

I'm in a 5 semester program and we dont get our Pharm class till the 4th semester. Which seems weird since our clinicals start in semester 2. LOL

Sleep deprivation and not having time for careplans. I'm trying to cut two shifts a month but its probably not going to happen. I'm looking forward to the neuro/ ortho floor and hope my OR experience will help. Got bones? LOL

Failing a test, making a mistake, or not being able to put it all together are always fears of mine. My goal every semester is to be competent at the expected skill level.

I passed my first math test! YAY! Now just have to pass the second one next week!

Second semester - psychiatric nursing/meg-surg 1

psych is the first 7 weeks, and medsurg will be the last 7 weeks. So far have had a med calc test (first day), and my first theory exam was today, along with 13472057 clinical projects due one after the other. I'm tired already. Nursing school blows. I just cannot with the insidious busy work. blech.
