Second-Entry Nursing Programs - 2014 Hopeful

Published

Hi Everyone!

I'm starting this topic for those who are applying to 2nd-entry programs, to start in 2014.

A bit about myself:

I'll be applying to University of Ottawa and University of Toronto.

Graduated with a Social Science degree from Ottawa U w/ 7.2 CGPA (aka 3.33 on 4.0 scale, or a B+)

A lot of community involvement in health promotion, youth counseling programs, women's health research..

Currently taking the prerequisites...

I'm kind of nervous about the applications because I know how competitive these programs are... Any advice from current 2-year BScN students would be great!

Let's get this thread going

Well, I just got rejected from UOttawa as my average was too low :/ guess it gives me more time to work on BIOL 235 and get an awesome grade for next year :) good luck to every one else though!

Sorry to hear :( . It is disappointing. You may want to read my above message though. BIOL 235 is not sufficient, that's what they told me regarding my application. If taking from Athabasca, apparently they want you to take BIOL 230 and 235. You have the time now to complete them both though!

Yeah, it's frustrating because it was the only school I applied to. I don't have the prereq's for the other schools and I can't really afford to leave town. I actually finished ANP 1107 in the summer so that part wasn't an issue for me. I think I might actually just take a few courses in the summer to boost my average for next year, maybe even look at RPN programs too. *sigh* I just wanna be a nurse :(

Sorry to hear about that :(

I just checked my application and I have been put on the "unnumbered" waiting list. At least they were quick to process applications and didn't leave us waiting in agony lol... :/

Hi!

I'm a carleton student taking the ANP classes right now at UOttawa, also trying to get into the second entry program. My average is about 76, so I'm not to optimistic, but I figured I'd try anyway.

I'm thinking of applying UWO though because they only look at your last 10 credits, and my lowest grades are first and second year. So my average would be a lot higher probably 80. I'm going to call UWO admissions and inquire tomorrow hopefully they are easier to reach and more helpful than Uottawa admissions!

Good luck everyone!

Hey Zaina, what section of ANP1107 are you in?? I'm also taking the course now, I'm in section A.

Also, I just checked my UO application and I'm wait listed, have you heard from them? Did you ever end up applying to UWO?

Sorry for all the questions :p

I was accepted to Queen's AST about a week ago and I got into Ottawa today. They have crazy reply deadlines though. I don't think I will have heard from U of T or Western before I have to confirm my place at Ottawa or Queen's.

@akpl do you mind sharing your GPA?? Ive applied too and I wanna know if I have a chance :)

@poobearr, 3.9 (89.3%)

Thanks for sharing this @fingers-crossed. I didn't apply to UOttawa but it's really useful information for those that did or who may be thinking of trying there next year.

Congratulations @phoebeisphat and thanks for sharing. The reply deadlines - what??? So if UofT is your first choice and Queen's is your second, you're gonna have to make a decision on Queen's before you hear from UofT???

Yeah. It is strange. The deadlines are all in the next week or two. Perhaps I can call and get the deadlines extended but I don't know.

I read on the OUAC website that you need to call the school and discuss it with them regarding confirmation of the acceptance. I wonder what would happen if you accept and then later turn it down...?
