Hi Everyone!
I'm starting this topic for those who are applying to 2nd-entry programs, to start in 2014.
A bit about myself:
I'll be applying to University of Ottawa and University of Toronto.
Graduated with a Social Science degree from Ottawa U w/ 7.2 CGPA (aka 3.33 on 4.0 scale, or a B+)
A lot of community involvement in health promotion, youth counseling programs, women's health research..
Currently taking the prerequisites...
I'm kind of nervous about the applications because I know how competitive these programs are... Any advice from current 2-year BScN students would be great!
Let's get this thread going
I was really stressed out about the second section. I found the quiz very difficult, but it was good becasue it was a kind of wake up call for me to step up my studying for the midterm! I studied really hard for the midterm after that, and was so worried about it, and then when I wrote it, it was really not bad, probably thanks to all the worrying and extra studying I did! It was definitely easier than midterm #1 because I knew better what to expect.
I got the same email from UofT. I thought I'd read in a forum somewhere that in other years applicants received offers earlier than April. I don't know if this means they using a different system this year or maybe they just want to make sure applicants don't phone and bother them ???
Me too. I hope they are just putting us off...because forums from 2012 and 2013 show that acceptance emails were sent out as early as last week of March. Fingers crossed for us!
Hey guys, I need help!
My university sent my transcript with my midterm mark to UofT right on time (Feb. 11 with 3-4 days mailing time) but I don't see it on my AppTrack page! I only see my initial transcript that was sent January 6th through OUAC. I tried to contact inquiry.utoronto as well as enrolment services directly, the former is being unhelpful and the latter is not answering. I also went on OUAC itself, but didn't find anything.
Does anyone have the same problem?
Thanks
akpl! i had the same problem and Toronto said that they cant confirm if they have received transcripts outside OUAC until the review process and if there is a problem they will contact you so you can send them again or something, so dont worry, if they dont receive them they will let you know.
to anyone applying to UOTTAWA!:
I just checked my UOttawa portal and got this unfortunate news:
After carefully considering your application, the Committee on Admissions is unable to offer you a place in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing - Second Entry Program program, offered in English, for the Spring/Summer 2014 session.
You have been refused admission for the following reason:
It looks as though they decided not to accept BIOL 235 after all. This is quite frustrating, considering there has been so much miscommunication regarding it. Isla88, perhaps your Brock course in addition to the BIOL 235 will suffice?
It's kind of ridiculous though, because they say that I lack the equivalent of ANP 1107, which has the following course description:
Anatomy and physiology of the endocrine regulation of metabolism, the digestive system, the reproductive system, and the urinary system; acid/base and water balance..
BIOL 235 does actually cover all of that. So I don't understand why they've turned it down.
Thank you thank you thank you!! I've been so worried that I'm putting all my hopes into a school that won't even consider me if the transcript is received too late because of something I had no control over (I requested a transcript to be sent way ahead of time and my university sent it later than I planned for)! I thought UofT was very strict about the Feb. 15 deadline, no?

I started in August, so I don't think it's about how much time you have. I think the self-paced nature is part of it. Athabasca makes it super convenient to take the course starting anytime, from anywhere, and you can pay for extensions and other little conveniences if necessary. But without the structure of lectures of classes, with the guidance of an instructor, I think it's a lot harder to get through the material, not to mention to stay motivated and disciplined. I started the course at a more leisurely pace, and then got kind of sidetracked for 2 or 3 months when I got busy with other things.
If you started more recently though, I can definitely see how the time crunch would be a problem too though!
